For the Prodigy mashups I did, I used Acid Pro 2.0 and Sound Forge.
As for my own music, I never did anything serious, at the moment I have Nuendo 3 installed on my computer but don't have the time to use it..

Ableton Live as the main DAW with NI Massive, Z3ta+ and Guru. For hardware, I have a humble M-Audio X-Session midi controller. Lately, I've been getting into the laptop DJing thing and have just been warping my music collection and "spinning" D&B and 4/4 stuff.

As far as Reason or software not being fat enough... it's all about the processing and resampling. You can get a CRAZY reese bass out of subtractor with a little time and effort.

I agree with this. If you tweak the subtractor just right, good things come out. I was pissed off earlier cause it takes so much time, at least for me.

Not trying to threadjack but, you can't just plug a subtractor into a mixer dry and get the fat you're looking for. I've seen IMMENSE combinator patches 3 or 4 "pages" deep with dozens of Screams, EQ splitting action, etc, etc all to just get a bass. And then they resample that and throw it in an NNXT to tweak it even more. You can't just load up a preset and go on a rant about hardware.

Of course. I never said you could.

Now thats something I wasnt aware off. Usually every "instrument" I use in Reason is hooked with two screams, a delay, eq, etc, but I never went to that extent of resampling. I guess you really can do more if you go insane with it. Maybe im just loosing my interest, who knows. Btw. I'd really like to see samples of these maniacs just to see how it works.

Oh its not a rant, its the real fucking deal. I was talking about real instruments as in guitar, bass, drums...etc. I'd really like to work with that. Dunno, Reason bores me lately. And those fucking pattern makers are becoming my nightmare. Its been years now and Im starting to hate it.

I'm more of a musician that just wants to play, rather than spend hours tweaking synths...

Ableton and reason + lots of vst is my equipment.
