Thats fucked up. We should make a trash ball like in Futurama and sent it to the sun to be incinerated. Seriously tho, thats quite disgusting. Some sort of effort to clean the ocean should be made.

yeah World's On Fire... seriously

to Boubafeet
I thought about it some time ago, it would have been good if we had another way to think about the garbage, which is...

well the way it is right now, imagine this: there is 100 people on 100 square kilometres of land, well all the people have little parts of land concentrated in the same region and much of the rest of the land is left unoccupied. everybody is a source of garbage (which is put in a shared rubbish dump), and people have this way of thinking: I consume, it causes waste, but I get rid of it and since it's no more on my part of land, the problem is solved (but actually, the garbage goes right to the environment, polluting it)

what would be good instead: all 100 people have their own square kilometre of land, they pick the resources of it, they consume it, but KEEP the waste (it remains their own). this way their is no way people will start doing rubbish dumps, becausewhen the resources will get worked-out and everything's gone into garbage, the people will be pretty fucked. this would make them start of thinking to recycle stuff instead, be aware of the nature

what you think of that conception?

when I think of it, here where I live, the land used to be inhabited by Native Americans, well I wish they still were the dominant people, because they had a respectful way of using the nature

example: if they had to kill animals, they'd do it (they're not vegetarians - and yes humans have to kill some animals), but as less as they could, and they'd eat all the meat they could, keep the bones for making tools, recycle everything they could, etc.

brilliant, isn't it? way better than what we got now...

The theory's nice, but in reality it just wouldn't work. Japan, China and India are some of the highest polluters and highest populated areas on the planet. Japan has something like 35 million people living in an area of 8,000 sq/km (Tokyo). That works out at about 4,500 people per sq/km.
Some places in India have twice as many people as that in half the land area.

And as for sending it all into the sun, how you gonna get it there? Build a rocket that can carry 100 million tons? Any idea how many resources it would take to:

a) dredge all that plastic out of the sea
b) build the rocket
c) find enough land to store the plastic on whilst building the rocket
d) load it all on the rocket
e) fuel the rocket to get it into space
f) do all this whilst avoiding more pollution?

It's a very difficult situation, and I think we've left it too late to avoid a major ecological disaster. Bottom line, it's time to start looking for real estate on the Moon.

I know the theory's nice, but I know it's only theory and it couldn't work (but hey, I'm a man of theory  )

forget the sun, forget the moon, all that shit, we can only do our best to preserve what we already have, and already made half-fucked

when I'll be back there is something else I have to say, gotta go by now...

it's not so much the high population of some countries - it's more the pollution created as a by product from providing the lifestyle goods for the rich populations.

it's been seen before, but it's worth showing again - here's a map of the world with the countries shown with a scale proportional to the amount of pollution produced per person.

I was kidding. It wasn't a solution at all. I guess you didn't watch Futurama. The trash ball eventually came back to Earth and almost destroyed it but they threw another trash ball to get the original to go to the sun.

the thing I had to say...

I remember BigSugar saying here:
TMWKTM wrote:
Fuck Xmas! Fuck the snow! Fuck Al Gore and his Global Warming! I hope Global Warming happens! In fact, I'm going to start polluting more on purpose now! :teeth:

and I also remember we talked about some ignorant Muslim guy who thought Earth was flat:
http://www.brainkiller.it/public/forum/ ... php?t=2311

well this kind of ignorance BigS showed is destructive
I'm not pointing BigS here but ignorant people in general (in fact we love our Big Sugar! :P )

if you remember there was a time everybody on the planet thought the Earth was flat, but Galileo defended what he considered was the most likely (which was the truth), but was ridiculised by the ignorant people because the truth was upsetting
now we all know it's true, it's the ignorant that look ridiculous now (just like the Muslim guy)

same thing is happening with Global Warming, except it's quietly starting to penetrate society in general's mind, but it's not taking too much effect, and still a lot people think it's bullshit

what would happen with these people, if we give them a trip in time, like in 100 years, when the problem will have made more damage, won't they look ridiculous, saying "Global Warming is no big deal" ?

knowing the truth is not the only thing, what we need is once we get it, put ourself into action
people don't care for plastic pollution because they say "hey it's not on my land so I don't give a fuck", and they don't care for global warming because "I don't wanna ditch my brand new and cosy SUV which I don't even take into the dust"**

my action is, well it's been 2 years now that I'm driving, that I'm tied to this "I need I car to live" mentality, well hey this autumn I ditch my car and go to residence right next to the university, no more need of a car, no more waste of fuel! (and money)

** so if you read this Liam, please ditch that Porsche Cayenne of yours :P
