First off, well done for passing! It's a real achievement.
OK, cars.
The biggest engine you should be looking at is a 1 litre or less. Something that's marginally better than walking like a Micra, Fiesta, Corsa or Cinqucento is perfect. Ideally you should get something about 5 years old that's been looked after. Then if you do write it off, you've only wrecked a shed rather than a shiny new car. (Statistically about 70% of new drivers will have an accident in their first year, so don't think I'm putting you down before you even start driving properly. I had my first accident 2 weeks after passing. I hit a wild deer (!))
Insurance wise, take the hit and get it insured in your own name for the first year. Don't use your Mum or Dad's insurance as the first time you insure it later under your own name you won't actually have any no claims bonus. After a year it'll come down significantly. Discuss the possibilty of a limited mileage agreement with the insurance company.
Don't even think about modifying it with aftermarket alloy wheels, spoilers, bodykits etc. It'll double or even triple your premium.
That's about it really. Just enjoy yourself.

Congratulations
Talking of UFOs, seen some weird shit when I lived in Peterborough as a kid.
A big spherical ball of light followed me and me mum to the shops for about five minutes one evening, lots of other people around saw it as well and were just as freaked, then after a bit of hovering it just whooooshed straight upwards and disappeared.
They're here deffo.
