Right im gonna post my reply's on here cause there so funny

My First Reply

Coggles,

To start things off I want to say this. Like all my other initial posts, the words here are completely heartfelt. I have written several to new folks and I have the same intent behind each of them, but it is sometimes hard for me to get the words right. I have made this one that I send to the newcomers and want you to know that I mean everything written. I think John has a similar thing and I agree with him that These are sincere words to you and each new person here.

I first want to welcome you to the first day of your new life. I, and many others, will tell you that you have taken a HUGE first step in your goal of recovery. You have opened yourself up and allowed others to see and for many, that is the Hardest part of all. Truly admitting that you have a problem is big in starting your recovery.

I am glad that you have chosen to seek out help. I waited much too long and it nearly destroyed my family. Congratulations on seeing this as soon as you have.

I don't know if you are not a religious person but, As for me, I follow God. I know others here do not have the same beliefs as I, and they will be sharing with you as well. I follow my faith very closely now and have grown a lot because of that. I have begun a free on line course at www.settingcaptivesfree.com called the way of purity. This is a biblically based course that I have found extremely helpful with my recovery. there are several of us on this forum who I have seen are committed to this course and have been helped by it.

Secondly, there are several book that are very good reading and have excellent advise to follow. I am currently reading The war Within by Robert Daniels. I have a couple more waiting in the wings to read; Facing your Giants by Max Lucado and a couple that are also marriage related. The seven principles for making Marriage work by John Gottman and The Exemplary Husband by Stuart Scott. I have found these very helpful so far and look forward to picking up th next book to continue in the right direction.

Third I would suggest coming here often. I come here daily and read what others are going through and it helps me to see where I was, where I am and most importantly, where I am going. Focus is a key and maintaining that focus will carry me through.

Again I welcome you and wish you great successes in your recovery from this horrible sin that has plagued our lives.

God bless you and yours. Keep the faith my Brother,

SECOND REPLY

Coggles,

I am sorry about the situation with your girlfriend. I also lost my girlfriend though she never agreed to come back. You have an opportunity. Do not squander it.

Sadly, your story is a common one here. There is hope and you can get better but you will have to do real work.

I am going to post to you the same thing that I have posted to other newcomers recently. I used to write these "welcome" posts individually but a lot of people come and go and writing a good introductory post takes a lot of energy. I now use a template based on earlier posts I have made to newcomers. Though the words may be cut and paste the sentiment is not. I will give you the best advice I know how - and it will be the same that I offer to every other new member:

If you are addicted to pornography you have come to the right place. There is a lot of information and support here. Recovery is possible but requires three basic elements, regardless of the path you choose:

Rigorous honesty
Hard work
Outside help

You have to be completely honest with yourself and others at all times as you do your recovery work. Keeping secrets, minimizing, distorting, blame-shifting, etc. will impair your recovery efforts. Ultimately, you will hurt only yourself.

You have to develop a plan and work on it. Wanting to quit real bad is never enough. Your recovery will require writing, reading literature and journals on this site, listening to those who have achieved good sobriety, etc. It is both easy and hard. The work required is not overwhelming. But doing it correctly - that is hard because deep down we often resist our own best efforts.

You will need the help of others. That will include people on this board. Help does not just mean you ask for help and then people do your work for you. You will get advice - some of it good and some of it not so good. It is up to you to separate the wheat from the chaff, decide what is best for you (not what is easiest), and then put that advice into action. As the saying goes, "you can lead a horse to water but you cannot make him drink." A few good free (donations only) recovery programs are listed here:

http://www.slaafws.org/meetinfo.html
http://saa-recovery.org/meetings.htm
http://www.sa.org/top/
http://www.sca-recovery.org/meetings.htm

Another important resource is the new member's thread found here:
http://lightwave.proboards48.com/index. ... 1084396654
Finally, many addicts have found the online program at www.recoverynation.com very helpful.

I would also strongly recommend that for now you focus your attention on the Recovering Addicts Forum and the Recovery Journals. Starting your own recovery journal provides you with a place to discuss issues related to your recovery, pull your secrets out of the dark, and track you own progress generally.

Finally, focus on today. Some of us fantasize about what our lives will be like when we have a week, a month, or a year of sobriety. Others think, "how can I quit this forever? It seems impossible!" Both are dangerous ways of thinking. They will either distract you from the work you have to do today or they will cause you to despair and give up. Focus on today. First things first.

If you have any questions or just want someone to talk to, you are always welcome at my journal.

A friend and fellow addict,

JohnG

you've got another one!

"Hi Coggles:
I don't have much to add to the 2 very fine responses you received, except to say that I think it's really great that you found this site. You're still very young, and it's such an advantage to have a source like this where you can come and find help. (The internet CAN be a good thing :) When I was your age, I was also in the throes of using P and MB. However, I thought nothing of trying to change my behavior and would have just pushed aside any suggestion that I was going down a bad path. So, you have some distinct advantages here of being able to get helpful advice from people who have been down the same path. It took me close to 36 years since the time I became involved with MB (various forms of P came a few years after) to really get serious about changing my behavior. As was stated above, don't squander the opportunity to set a new course. I can guarantee you that you will not be sorry. You can do it. It takes work and strength, but it's worth it.

Stay strong, stay sober...
SD"

reading through that, the guy is saying that he wanked for 36 years before he was able to stop!!!! methinks he's fooling himself
