That's my city, Cairns, right in the middle of it! A category 4 cyclone is what caused this in a neighbouring town a few years back:






So, I'm officially freaked out.

seminar work is due to this friday. just corrected the work of my colleagues... and its plain shit ... i see myself doing their work in the end... also theres the biggest fucking monster test of my studies this friday...

Aquila I hope u r ok , I saw some pics from newspapers and I read the report , it seems it was huge but there was no casualties luckily coz the evacuation was performed on time.

Came through ok. The eye of the storm hit about 100kms south of me, so it wasn't quite as bad for us as we thought it was going to be.

Since I was house-sitting for mum & dad I bunkered down in their house since all the rooms have concrete walls. It started about 7pm and the noise was incredible! For most of the night I was huddled on the bed with two scared cats watching the ceiling bow up and down with the wind, thinking the roof was going to go any minute. Amazingly it stayed put, and it all slowed down at about 3am.

Went for a drive during the day and took a few pics of the damage:






There really wasn't that much structural damage. Lucky really. Just trees and powerlines mostly...the occasional structure here and there and that's it. Went without power for about 2 and a half days, lost mobile reception and the internet went down for a while too. After the last major cyclone 5 years ago, I invested in a generator...that thing just paid itself off twofold lol!

I'll probably be travelling south tomorrow to document the more serious damage as a freelance photographer. Wish me luck!

Forgot to mention I took a visit to one of the worst affected areas. I took my camera and dressed in a high-vis jacket so I looked official, and managed to get into some restricted areas.

Despite seeing such incredible destruction, I am so very thankful at how this major storm mercilessly missed major towns, including my hometown. We went nearly 4 days without power and half of the trees were destroyed but it was nothing compared to what nearby towns went through.

My laptop broke proly got infected... And I lost my UNO cards lol
