Its not a serial port, but a VGA port. You need a signal converter (often a little box with several input/output capabilities) before you can connect it to the SVHS port, as those two interfaces are not compatible with one another.

I would recommend not hooking anything up to an HDTV via S-Video. In a word, it'll look like ass.

Who says he has got a HDTV?

Btw, the box you found converts SVHS/composite to VGA and not the other way around. Try search google for "vga to svhs" or something like that. Be aware that there is some "solutions" where its all done with a cable, which is not good if you are not a signal geek that can modify the VGA output to a signal that a TV understands. This is in danish but maybe it will give you a clue:

It has a chip (like most graphics cards) that transforms the computers VGA signal into TV signals. (costs less than £50).

Btw, there are many non-standard SVHS ports with anything from 4 to 9 pins or something like that. So be sure that you get a cable that fits the converter box AND your TV.

(just found this in the link in your first post: http://www.svideo.com/vga2video.html .. score)

I guess technically they're correct. It's not possible to connect the two, but it is possible to convert between the two.

This is the easiest device I could find that would do it:

No, the scart thing will not work, unless you know how to change the output of your VGA port to 50 Hz interlaced at a resolution of 720x576. The end. Get one of the type converter boxes that me and bokorugro showd you. Thats it.

yes Zumo, maybe you right, i don't try it, but this is an option not to expensive. of course that the box is way much better than this.
anyway, when i'll get the chance will try, and tell you if it works or not. my only question is why they produced, if didn't work... :?
good luck monk :)

Because it is actualy possible to make it work, if you know how to modify your graphics cards output signal like i described. Its not something the average guy can just do with his GeForce 99500 GTSX extra super HD special edition.
