Alright folks, I really REALLY want to come home to the UK. I haven't been back to my home town in nearly 20 years! What I need to do is set myself up with a job, sell almost everything and hop on a plane. My preference is in the Yeovil/Somerset area, so if anyone has access to local job guides please let me know (online career sites are useless for specific areas). |

well i'll have a look at some sites for jobs, theres a good few. but theres a big problem here aqulia with the home market. its gone basicly to shit, i thought i'd point it out to u. seen a tv show a while ago talking about it. the house i've got here is a 3 bedroom home, 1 of the bedrooms are really small, i have a front and back garden about 7 sqaure meters long and the back garden is about 3 metres bigger and the home is semi detatched and we have a garage for one car and a driveway for another. now the price of this house is around £200,000 and in australia u can get a massive six bedroom house with like a massive back garden and like a garage for 4 cars. so im kinda worried at the fact if your planning to move to your own house, itl be a bad idea unless u can live with the large money sacrafice, the home market here is fucked, along with taxes (£4.59 for 20 smokes) and you've got the smoking ban here if you enjoy smoking in bars over there. i just thought u should consider everything before comming back to the uk, im sure u really miss the place but its alot colder, raining all the time u know, although that wouldn't really matter but still, consider home prices and taxes first. i'll keep having a look for job websites for u |

yeah, and also you can't go back 'home' except in your mind. the reality is that it's a totally different place to 20 years ago. believe me - you'll feel like a tourist. all you'll be doing in effect is moving to a new country where everything is insanely expensive. you'll know some people there, but they'll be different too. starting afresh is hard enough as it is, but in a place you thought you knew is really strange. it's almost easier to go to a completely new place. sorry if this isn't very helpful, but it's just the experience of a few friends who've done what you're thinking. they all regret doing it now btw

If you move in the summer there is plenty of opportunities for construction work etc. If you're willing to put the hours in it's pretty good money! What Cogz was saying about houses, yea the house prices are ridiculous but I'm sure you'll be able to find an affordable flat too rent until you get on your feet. I'd deffinetly consider some manual labour work you know. Only thing with that is you have no chance of finding any on the net it's probably more of a local thing. So unless you want to move up to bonny Scotland I can't really help you there I'm afraid mate  . I'll see what I can dig up though!

yeah its the same with me man, im only finding stuff up in scotland. manual labor work does have a good bit of money in it, you could do somthing first and perhaps do a college course for plumming, charge anything u like if you've got the qualifications |

That's actually very true. I moved out of my parents' place only 3 years ago and when I went back a few weeks ago, I visited an old mate and the inner city area he lives in has totally changed. Not for the better either, the whole area has gone downhill, the sheer number of illegal immigrants there is amazing. I was shocked to say the least. He hadn't even noticed! |
