How to Make Paper Clip Jewelry

Paper clips are mundane, functional and contribute to clutter on our desks, but rarely do we consider the ornamental potential paper clips contain. You don't have to invest a great deal of money to create unusual jewelry from paper clips. Paper clip jewelry is also earth-friendly, keeping disposable office supplies out of the landfill. Read on to learn more.

Things You’ll Need:
- Paper clips
- Needle-nose pliers
- Wrapping paper
- Rectangular paper clips
- Small springs
- 3 mm beads

Step 1:
Make spiral paper clip earrings. Straighten paper clips, and then use needle-nose pliers to fashion a tightly wound coil. Finish the coil with a small loop, and attach to earring wires.

Step 2:
Connect 30 paper clips into a circular chain for a necklace. Cut 30 1-inch squares from metallic or brilliantly colored wrapping paper. Wrap a paper square around each clip and secure with glue.

Step 3:
3Purchase rectangular paper clips in the scrapbook section of a craft store. Connect the clips together by winding the spring from the inside of a retractable pen onto both edges of the clips. Attach as many clips as you'd like to make a bracelet or necklace.

Step 4:
4String paper clips with your color choice of 3 mm beads. Attach as many beaded clips as you want to customize your anklet, bracelet or necklace. Choose beads in the recipient's school colors for a college student's gift.

Step 5:
Straighten 6 clips then use needle-nosed pliers to coil the ends as desired. Wrap the straight ends of the clips with another clip, so that the ends flare out in a two-dimensional design. Coil the exposed ends of the wire at the top and attach one coil to a necklace for a pendant.
