We thought we should add our 2 cents worth to the justified anger and outrage sparked by the BBC's decision to close 6 music...
Last week there was a leaked report of the plans to close the station which is very worrying for music fans like you and bands like us, today everyones worst fears have been confirmed! We think this decision has dire implications for independent music and UK culture as a whole and something must be done!
When we first started the only place on national radio to hear some of our material was on 6 music. Our first radio DJ mix was on radio 6 a few years ago, not a club mix, no we were asked to do something more interesting - a mix of tracks which represented our influences.
When we released our own EP on our indie label at the beginning of 2009 6 Music's Nemone and Lauren Lavern both played the track Crystaling, big deal you might think... but it really is if you consider that Crystaling is an entirely instrumental track! Where else on national day time radio can you hear instrumental tracks by new artists? Thats right nowhere, whats more they took the time to say how great they thought the track was and how you could get hold of it.
Another cool spin off from this was that people started blogging about the track and our album as far and wide as the United States and the United Arab Emmerates as a direct result!
The fact is that commercial radio stations will not provide an alternative to 6 Music they cannot, as advertisers only want to advertise on stations which pump out mass consumption friendly X Factor sponsored acts etc
Remember people - for mediocrity to triumph it only takes real music fans to do nothing!
