Windows Defender comes pre-installed together with Windows Vista. For greater effort though I would still recommend installing a second spyware scanner, preferably an on-demand one. Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4 works well on Windows Vista, but you will need to have Administrator user rights for it to function properly. The software is freeware, updated very regularly and can be downloaded from here. Some virus scanners come with anti-spyware functionality as well, but I prefer dedicated software still for now; the anti-spyware functionality in anti-virus software is not as advanced yet as in applications such as Spybot - Search & Destroy 1.4.
