If you didn't want to be compared to Pendulum then why did you write/produce Invaders Must Die (the song) to sound EXACTLY like Pendulum?
Well, I think Liam obviously admires Pendulum, why else would he have them in the line up for the Milton Keynes gig, as well as ask them to remix his music and even collaborate with them on their own music. The fact that IMD (the song) sounds a lot like Pendulum is probably more of an acknowledgment that he admires them rather than wanting to rip-off their sound.
The timing of that statement is very odd, as far as I knew no one really gave a shit anyway, it was only when IMD was released prior to the album that everyone said it sounded like Pendulum. Once the album came out then everyone appreciated it as a 'Prodigy' album with the Prodigys sound.
As for Pendulum, I think its safe to say they're going nowhere fast. Don't get me wrong, they once made some really great music (Masochist and Through The Loop spring to mind), but these days it seems like they're making music for 10 year olds. They're no different than all this generic Pop/RnB shit that's dominating the charts at the moment, (I personally can't tell the fuckin difference from Jason Derulo, Iyaz and Justin Bieber), they just re-produce the same old tired sound again n again cause they know that the brainless kids of today will still buy their music regardless of that. The funny thing about this is, I actually used to really like Pendulum, but it bugs me so much that they seem to just want to sell the same song over n over. These days I find Pendulum about as inspiring as a bag of carrots!
Rant over...

you can produce alot of the shit your listening to, through inspiration, fuck listen to trance music its all got the same sounds in it because they all are pretty much inspired by each other and always contain some kind of saw lead or an 80's ballad sample in it.
there might be similarities but prodigy's way better than pendulum, you can't compare them to pendulum, i agree liam i fucking hate it too.
its at gigs especially i've seen them both, holy fuck pendulum are like abba while prodigy are like black sabbath you just can't compare them, the energy is totally different, even if you love pendulum as much as prodigy and been to see them both live you'll understand there is a Massive difference, i'd say pendulums energy live is a hell of a lot weaker but that isn't fair on them because it is a very different energy and i get a buzz more out of the prodigy's energy of chaotic drum toms and percussion and torrent like bass lines through heavy guitars and screams and shouts of keith and maxim.

The way I see it is. Liam liked Pendulum. Maybe saw them as a group that could evolve into something like The Prodigy. So he killed the crew of Pendulum in the track Invaders Must Die. He took their 'sound', made it better and dicked them. Now Pendulum suck. So now, with Pendulums new album out. Which I think stinks. Liam doesn't want to be compared to a group who are shit. Thats it. I reckon he only helped out on Pedulum track only because Pendulum kinda helped out or just did a sick remix Liam liked (Voodoo). I dunno....
Anyway, who cares. I'm glad Liam said this! Best news I've heard since the release date of AONO haha!
Bottom line, Pendulum suck. I hope they get dropped from MK. However that won't happen.

they both start with P, they both are electronic and have guitars. Pendulum did a remix of voodoo people that most (younger) people know over the original. That's enough for the general ignorant population to consider them similar.
Like I already said, it's mostly the younger crowd (that I know) that compare the two, and also the casual fans.

The main reason Pendulum get compared to The Prodge is the rockin' live shows, both give 110%. No-one says they sound the same.
Grow some Liam, there's room for both of ya.

The people who think the 'Invaders Must Die' track sounds like Pendulum should listen to the 'You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into' album by Does It Offend You, Yeah? 'Invaders Must Die' was co-produced with Does It Offend You, Yeah?'s James Rushent and it shows.
This interview with Liam isn't him saying he hates Pendulum, it's Liam saying he hates The Prodigy being compared to Pendulum.

No no no no no! People who think the Prodigy sound like Pendulum obviously havent heard The Qemists first album, blatant rip offs, if Pendulum shud be blasting anyone for ripping off their sound then it should be the Qemists. I seriously thought they were a joke at first, but even they seem to be doing more interesting stuff than Pendulum themselves these days.
Does it Offend You Yeah on the other hand, they're not too bad, bit camp, but I wud of said they sounded more like the Prodigy doing Indie Rock. Not that thats a bad mix, at least Liam probably don't think so, why else would he have asked James Rushent to co-produce Omen and IMD with him.
