also been reading and all that about the best place for a gig to stand, about 20 meters from the stage is suposidly the prime point for great recording and performance. i dono i'll be at the front
no...20 meters is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay toooooooo close....if you are within 150 feet of the stage you will end up with a load of distorted shit.
try to center on the stage...it depends on your mic...if you are using a stereo or mono
right around the sounboard area is usually good but no closer...my first attempt at recording the prodigy i was way to close and the bass killed it...
you cant really go crazy at the gig and record it as well....minidiscs are sensitive and you cant be jumping around and going mad or it wont record
good luck and i hope you get something good...like some new tracks

Cogglesz wrote: well we have recordings of the first time breathe was played ( ) but lets not talk about that, liams got really good a live gigs, he won't mess it up like before herd songs, and surley to god i can't be the reason for nothing being played because im just one person, the result would mine thousands of people disapointed at the festival. liam uses ableton, basicly he can make the whole song and then set up differnt parts of the song, action radar is a good example, you'll notice it kicks in a differen't times and the voice goes up to normal pitch at a certain time too, abletone gives u full control over when playing live, he picks when certain parts of songs play. if he were to play somthing new it will sound amazing to us all, were the bk crew for fucks sake, im not gonna spam the whole new live tune on youtube or somthing because its just daft, instead i share it here with "ALL" the people who have gave me live clips, they done me a favour so im doing one back so to say, liam played an old 80's tune (Final Countdown), normal people would laugh at this and ask why the prodigy would play it, but were like "aww man those beats are the fucking best, come oonn give us new shit" i have respect for alot of people, one being liam, i'd not host my shit everywere and say yeah brilliant now everyones gonna go like "yay coggles massive respect to you bro" i don't want that, if i did i would have the SECC gig everywere, brainkiller, youtube etc etc etc etc, but i don't. if liam plays somthing new great for us and news. but since u said so ehacker, me and fifer wont record the gig for you and we'll keep our mouths shut about new material
coggz its going to be hard attempting not to listen to these new recordings. people may think i am crazy (they would be right) but hopefully when you are recording the clips i will be there to! I just want the same buzz i had in 97 when i had fotl on release day 8 years old and the whole thing blowing me away . .... i dont think anybody will get that buzz if we have heard the beats the melodies and structure and all that shit on a grainy recording.
but yeah if all goes to plan see you there mate

i have a sony so it may not be the same for other brands but here is what i do...
i put the mic sensitivity setting (on the md) to high...my md does not require a powered mic...the mic input is powered by the md recorder itself...make sure your recorder has a mic in input
i use the auto limiting setting...i tried to do it manually but it is hard to get it correct...if you use the warm up act for a sound level it does not turn out corrrect because the prodigy are always much louder than then anyone else...so auto is the way to go
my sony can use the high capacity 1gig discs so i record in pcm format which gives you 1 hour 34 minutes...more than enough for a prodigy set at a festival

Never taped The Prodigy, but the proof says that cardioid mics have had a great taping response. If I am not wrong, you taped with some kind of ECM series, and you had pretty good tapes. Now it comes to my memory the T in the Park 98, Reading 98, some 1996/97 UK gigs or Lowlands / Pukkelpop 2001, Moscow 2005, that were taped with some of the Sony ECM series, and they all are very good sound quality. Moreover, some other excellent tapes were made with cardioid mics, such as the BDO 2002 (Core Sound Stealth) or Pisa 2006 (thanks to my U2 italian trading partner MLK) made with Audio Technica series (cheap but amazing mics). Other pretty decent tape with Core Sound Stealth Cardioids is Madrid 2004. I don't remember any great Prodigy tape made with omni-directional mics (however, we only have a full gear / lineage for a few Prodigy recordings, and honestly, any recording in circulation, as far as I know, was made with omnis).
I stayed at Creamfields Andalucía last year at 15 metres from stage, and sound was horrible, full of low end frequencies and bass.

bokorugro cheers for the tips on the recording, i'll see what happens with the buzz i get, considering i've waited 2 years to see them live again means i'll be pretty buzzed.
oh by the way, if anyone knew when the prodigy were due on stage, could they tell us here, if its night time then theres no worry's for me

See the reason you didn't get good results mate is because Manual is the way too go. I have a sony mindisc too, in auto you're right shit like the bass can drown out the recording and you end up with poor audio. With some practice in manual you get great recordings. Only thing is they can end up a bit patchy, so as Cogz was saying we would need some luck so that between two of us we come up with some decent shit. I won't be recording all night though because no jumping around or generally getting carried away with the music will be involved while doing so!

This is not quite news, but anyway...
I had a weird dream the other night. I was amongst a few chosen ones who had the chance to listen to a pre-release version of the new album. They showed us the CD cover and the name of the album was written on it, but I can't remember it So, they started playing the album and the first track had a quiet beginning, but there was something quite familiar about it, after half a minute it turned out that it was some kind of a remix/cover of Spitfire. Then something similar happened with the second track - it was a Girls remix/cover. I thought to myself - this is AONO all over again (which is not necesserily bad, but in this case it would be). So I became a little suspicious about the whole thing. As it turned out it was a fake. In fact those people who invited us to listen to this 'pre-release' were aliens, who used it as a bate and abducted us meanwhile They had a plan to destroy the Earth, but I have no idea why it involved a few Prodigy fans
It was not too difficult to figure out why I had this funny dream:
1 - I always have weird dreams
2 - waiting for so long drives me a tiny bit crazy
3 - all the old Sci-Fi movie posters associated with the visuals for the new album

N/A that's a pretty trippy dream mate :D.
But even your information is more reliable than the Prodigy's.... Haha
