because the license was to use it for non-commercial purposes (hence the "free").
if you want to use it for commercial you need to ask permission.

the main thing i was hoping for when i contacted them was to get credit for freesound and raise awareness of the availability of creative common material for other artists and potential artists out there. i actually told their manager that i wasn't too worried about my name being mentioned. the sample on there was released on the creative commons sampling 1.0 plus license, which means anyone can use for non-commerical stuff as long as they attribute the use. i actually had it under the wrong license because i also don't care if people use it for commercial use.
anyway, liam did exactly what i wanted him and others to be able to do and he used freesound for exactly what it is intended to be used for. he's a totally upstanding artist in my experience.
