This man gave it a 3 out of 5, what do you think about his review

Album Review: – The Prodigy: Invaders Must Die (Cooking Vinyl)
The Prodigy: Invaders Must Die (Cooking Vinyl)

CityLife Rating: 3.0000 out of 5

FAT Of The Land was a blessing and a curse. Once you have released one of the most critically acclaimed electro albums of all time how do you top it?

After a seven-year hiatus, the following album Always Outnumbered Never Outgunned was a nervous attempt by Producer Liam Howlett to prove The Prodigy could still be relevant in the increasingly advancing electronic world.

Howlett nervously tried to reinvent what had previously been a punk/electro signature sound and largely failed.

Ironically, opening single Spitfire, which largely held to the Fat Of The Land formula, was the only real success to come from this mismatched attempt at redefinition.

Invaders Must Die is certainly not an effort at redefinition.

Put bluntly the album simply tries to recreate past glories.

Imagine 1992’s debut, Experience with Keith Flint’s FOTL vocals snarling throughout.

Thunder is a healthy nostalgic glance back to nineties rave roots, a relentless jungle beat mixed with aggressive synth’s and a reggae vocal sample that prompts allusions to previous hit single Out Of Space.

Omen is a perfect reminder of what the three-piece can achieve when working as a unit. Run With The Wolves is a blast of punk adrenaline which will fit perfectly in a live set along classics including Firestarter.

By adhering to winning ways the new album is a vast improvement on the last.

There are a few mistakes along the way. Take Me To The Hospital sounds like a car crash between reinvention and rave and Warrior’s Dance, with it’s cheesy vocals has more in common with happy hardcore than a pioneering act.

The new offering does not disappoint, but it unashamedly covers old ground.

A once pioneering, controversial trio are simply trying to rediscover their roots and understand what made them great.

Unfortunately attempting to live in the past cannot sustain a viable future.

to be fair. a balanced sensible review, warriors dance is far too cheesy and for me not a prodigy track, the rest will be banging, 3 out of 5 for me is what IMD will be, really great but not quite there, but still better than most electronic music out there...

its like somebody could said SMBU was a mistake on fat of the land

another silly journalist

and he claims, run is good song ? if anywhere on the album is any mistake, only one is RUN

looks like he spent his 20min coffee break to listen /or rather skip/ the album and to establish his oppinion

liam should read it.....i know that he enjoys getting pissed on journalists :)

well if you dont like dance music in general of course your not gonna like it, warriors dance = happy hardcore , he should be bashed against a brick wall for that comment obviously he doesn't know what the fuck he's on about and everyone calling it cheesy fuks sake just coz it has some vocals and trumpets dont meant shit are you to say that it has a cheesy bassline aswell? some people think they know dance music but they dont know jack shit (no pun intended but some of you will get it and some wont)

"Take Me to the Hospital" is an amazing throwback. Anyone who's ever heard both Jilted and Fat should love that track.

Anyone who calls it a car crash shouldn't be listening to Prodigy at all, let alone reviewing. "Warrior's Dance" is cheesy but "Colours" isn't?
