SOMA: Who are the invaders and why must they die? What does that mean?

FLINT: I think it means something different to each band member. But for me personally, I think that when the band went thru some bad times there were very few people who were trying to make the situation better. I don’t know if it was human nature or just British people at their dumbest, or their meanest. When something that’s been successful starts to break up, people like to spend more time going ‘You know Keith is doing this’ or ‘You know Maxim’s doing that,’ rather than saying ‘Hey, man, why don’t we all go out to dinner and you guys get together and look at the history that you’ve got amongst yourselves?’ These people were kind of like… They were the invaders to me.

SOMA: The Prodigy hasn’t put out a studio album as the complete, 3-member band that it started off as in over 10 years. What have you been doing since then?

FLINT: Liam (Howlett, the band’s composer/programmer) put out what could be best described as a solo album (Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned), although that was a Prodigy album. But we took that album back into the studio and we toured that…and we reworked a lot of the tracks so that me and Maxim could do them live. As much as it seems like, when you talk about specific times, from Fat of the Land to now, there wasn’t any studio time with the band. You know, we were constantly touring.

SOMA: So, you stayed busy?

FLINT: You keep yourself busy, always, and a lot of partying as well, you know.

SOMA: Do you see any difference in the rave scene that you started out in?

FLINT: It’s so very different now…the English rave scene was all about breaking into warehouses…a very renegade approach. That’s pretty much finished now. It’s very much a club culture now. And I think that’s how it is in the States now; it’s more of a club culture. But hey, if there’s a massive rave scene that’s really kicking off and I don’t know about it, good on you.

SOMA: How does it feel to live in one of, if not the most, watched country in the world? Your government has cameras installed everywhere.

FLINT: I’ve given it very little thought. I don’t think I could do anything about it. Let them watch. As the world goes on there becomes this more paranoid, suppressive place to live. It’s getting more and more fucked up and I think that the more you get sucked in to that — it’s almost doing its job. It makes you paranoid so you behave yourself. I just make sure I use the back roads and go out at night. That’s quite political, and I don’t give it thought, I mean, I wish it was different, but you can’t change it. I live in front of cameras, that’s my job, and I’ve learned how to deal with that.

SOMA: What would you say to those who question the Prodigy’s relevance in music today?

FLINT: That would be someone who hasn’t come to a show in six, eight months. Because if they come to a show, they couldn’t honestly say that.

SOMA: Do you feel like a relevant part of the Prodigy? You aren’t a songwriter and don’t produce any of the music — who are you in terms of the band?

FLINT: That’s something that I don’t have to qualify to people. I am not the major music writer, I am just a dancer. I am just the stage diver who never got thrown off. That’s me, I’m one of the crowd. I jumped on stage one day and never got thrown off. So, that’s my job and fuck, I love it. I think a band or anything that works is like a recipe. Sometimes you bake a cake or make pasta and all you need is a pinch of salt, without the salt, it doesn’t taste so good, but with salt, it’s a fucking hell of a dish. The band — we don’t feel like we have to qualify our position — my opinion in that studio and Maxim’s opinion in that studio is respected.

SOMA: Your name has become synonymous among English youth with being broke. Keith Flint, skint. How does that make you feel?

FLINT: I mostly laugh, it’s brilliant. It’s funny, like one of them insults. I don’t really care.

SOMA: Just another way for you to be infused with popular culture or society?

FLINT: I spent my life as a kid making a show of myself. It makes me laugh because I’m still like a virus, which makes me viral.

What an insulting question! Plus Keith is a song writer, he wrote BGAT and Razor, and the lyrics to other tunes. Interviewer needs to learn some respect and get his facts right...

+1. Each member has its contribution to the band's success, live or not. It's been said that Liam could go on alone, if M & K would leave, but the band would be a total bust without them, imo. Also, without Liam's genius writing...no Prodigy. :)

well i agree with that also, theres some facts to back it all up aswell.

when liam went solo and made always outnumbered, it was good but not the best and there are loads of people who say its shit

keith flints own stuff is the same, i like it but some people say its shit

maxims stuff, well i can't say i like it but i think there are some people who do like it.

if it wern't for maxim and keith flint the prodigy wouldn't be who they are today, keith may have started out as dancer but now he's a main part in the band, invaders must die wouldn't be half the album it is without him

Experience and MFTJG (except Poison) are the solo albums. Keith, Maxim and Leeroy were just on stage to keep the gig going well.
But when they're together it's a bomb
I wrote this to prove that AONO is a good album even if it's a solo album.

It's saying that 'I'm Keef Flint' was said by people instead of saying 'I'm Skint' which means 'I have no money', a bit like 'Rhyming Slang'

Has it bollocks. I've never heard that in my life. Not everyone in England talks in Cockney rhyming slang. I have my doubts the 'English youth' would know who Keith is. It isn't 1997 anymore. I would have thought The Prodigy's use of "Keef Skint" is more a play on Keith Flint than anything to do with money and rhyming.

Some cringe worthy questions asked: -
"Being British what do you think of the French?"
"How does it feel to live in one of, if not the most, watched country in the world? Your government has cameras installed everywhere."
"Are you planning on having any kids?"
"How long did you know your wife before you married her?"
"What do you think of Guy Richie films?"
