Quote:
Liam Howlett of The Prodigy is set to use the Korg Monotron Analogue Ribbon Synthesizer at a large festival date.

The synth was shown to him just 10 minutes before stepping on to the stage at this years Southside Festival in Neuhausen, Germany.

Their tour manager, Mat Davie, told Korg that Howlett was instantly hooked on Korg's battery-powered synth, and took it on stage with him that night.

Playing to an audience of over 4,000 fans, Howlett reportedly "got carried away with playing on it".

One day later, he used it again during their set at the Hurricane Festival in Scheessel, Germany.

Davie went on to tell Korg that the Monotron "looks like it is now part of his touring setup."

The Prodigy are currently touring Europe and are due to play to 65,000-strong crowd at the Milton Keynes Bowl next month.

The Korg Monotron :

Powered by two alkaline AAA batteries, the compact monotron can be held in one hand. Although small enough to easily carry with you, the amazing monotron is packed with KORG's legendary analog technology, generating thick and powerful sounds. Concentrating on the most important sound parameters, the controls have been streamlined as much as possible. The panel contains only five knobs and one switch. With this level of simplicity, now anyone can easily enjoy the world of analog synthesizers.

it's sooo tiny !

Shitty VSTs don't have MS20 analog filters in them :)

You're supposed to run other stuff through it, which is what I assume Liam was doing.

edit: You would be surprised what you can do with this thing with some tweaking.

Liam considers MS20 as one of his favourite piece of gear. And on that demo, it's doesn't sound cheezy at all!

i must admit i'm impressed by the video's, looks like a real experimental type of synth, i'm sure you still couldn't pull of solos but i really love the sound of that filter, would be great for bass lines, if this thing had a midi input it would be great because then i could use full sized keys on it, but this is too small to even have a midi slot on it.

i think i might get it actually, does it have any other wave-shapes apart from the saw ? like a square or pulse ?

Edit:

check this out:

thats really awesome !
after seeing that video i think you could pull off a keyboard solo.

get yourself audacity and a cable to attach from the monotron into the pc mic port and record over and over till you've got a full song :-D
