Quote: It’s been nearly five years since The Prodigy rocked our shores as part of the Two Tribes national tour in early ’05, and since then they’ve been one of the most requested electronic acts to return to Australia – and they were the one act to stir up the most excitement amongst ITMers when the lineup for next year’s Big Day Out tour was announced in September. Since then there’s been consistent pleading on the forums for sideshows, and now we can exclusively confirm – The Prodigy are locked for two massive sideshows in Sydney and Brisbane, proudly presented by ITM.
Throughout the 90s, The Prodigy came to represent everything that was anarchic and subversive about dance and rave culture, releasing two seminal albums in the form of Music for the Jilted Generation and Fat of the Land and securing their place in the cultural cannon with unbeatable anthems like Outer Space, No Good (Start the Dance), Firestarter and Smack My Bitch Up. They’re all tunes that still get a massive response when dropped in a set today, more than a decade after their release.
2003’s Always Outnumbered, Never Outgunned was arguably an ill-fated experiment by Prodigy producer Liam Howlett into the ‘electroclash’ sound, but even if the band hasn’t been as prolific with their material in recent years, one thing hasn’t changed. The Prodigy are still known the world over for the ferocious energy of their live shows, and it’s a reputation that’s made them one of the most highly anticipated acts on this year’s Big Day Out lineup. With the band reportedly packing a new album’s worth of material, they’re guaranteed to bring the noise.
Catch The Prodigy at the following sideshows, proudly presented by ITM. Tickets on sale Friday 14th November…
Tuesday 20th Jan – Brisbane Riverstage, special guests Simian Mobile Disco & Hot Chip DJs Saturday 24th Jan – Hordern Pavilion, Sydney
