ha, naa, i heard before somewhere that it was a jd-800 that liam used but was never really sure as i always thought the jd-800 was more of a pad synth, never anything that sounds anything like voodoo people or their law, every time i see people playing them on youtube n that theyre always playing pad parts, never lead ... guess it's just an extremely versatile synth |

can't remember this so clearly but i think oracle told me the voodoo sound was a preset on a roland rack synthesizer, i don't think the jd came in a rack version :S where voodoo and their law the same synthesizer ?? :S |

just found out that it says this under the JD-990 on that site that this was used for the main riff to Voodoo People as well as Poison, same as the JD-800 |

on here you can listen to mp3 examples of all the patch sounds on the JD-990, can't find no Prodigy ones, only the Pizzicato sound used in Faithless' Insomnia (and probably Salva Mea) |

if you click on the patch names you can listen to mp3 examples of the preset sounds from the JD-990 (....http://www.synthmania.com/jd-990.htm...) I used to think the Yamaha s30 was used for Insomnia as it says it on this .. http://www.vintagesynth.com/yamaha/s30.shtml .. but this synth wasn't in production until 2000 so it must of been used live by them when they played insomnia, if i remember correctly even the Yamaha CS6X had a patch called Insomnia which reproduces the faithless sound, and i know for a fact that the CS6x was one of Sister Bliss' favorite synths for composing tracks (during the No Roots era) as well as used live by her... the JD-990 just seems right to be used for the ORIGINAL Insomnia and Salva Mea sound, but probably processed somewhat through compressors and reverb on the record. during my search for info on the synths that liam used/uses i came across this old magazine interview/section from Korg that goes into some depth of what Liams favourite gear was during the Experience era... classic stuff, as well as classic photos of Liams studio, here u go ... http://img125.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fm01ot8.jpg (page 1/4) http://img297.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fm02by3.jpg (page 2/4) http://img297.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fm03xg0.jpg (page 3/4) http://img225.imageshack.us/my.php?image=fm04sv3.jpg (page 4/4) |
