Here´s my Review of AONO:
---------------------------------
SPITFIRE:
------------
I like both Spitfire Versions... the album version sounds trashy, which I really like. There is space enough to hear every gap between the beats - so it feels a little bit empty and that makes it untypical, but it has enough energy to compare it with other prodigy tracks like SMBU i.e.
Liam often said, the speed of a track has nothing to do with it´s powerness. A faster track hasn´t more energy, than a slower one.
The Spitfire 05 Mix is more typical prodigy, cos the gaps between the beats are filled with more beats and that´s one of Liams formulars: You don´t need 160 or more bpm´s, just take 80 - 90 bpm and fill the gaps, so you can reach the same or a better energy....
GIRLS:
--------
I really liked that track from the beginning and personally for me it is the 2nd Part of SMBU - I really liked the order of the beats and the samples are sexy. And then the passage from 2:07 to 2:40 - an easy and crazy idea, but it fits good into that track....
MEMPHIS BELLES:
---------------------
Uncommon prodigy tune, not really danceable I think, but powerfull and innovative. I like the alternate versions as well....
GET UP GET OFF:
--------------------
"Get Up Get Off" ...hmm... I liked that tune more than "Under My Wheels" the first months I listened to AONO, cos of the lyrics and the non-typical beat for such hip-hop lyrics. Those typical beats you got back in the alternate-version - I like them both - so it is a good tune.
HOT RIDE:
-------------
Nothing to say, that tune is perfect...
WAKE UP CALL:
------------------
Lot of people said, that tune is boring, cos it´s monotous... I agree with that concerning the point of the main melody... yes, that melody repeats and comes again and again through the whole track, but take a closer look to the bridges, samples and some passages Liam puts in that track just for one time here and there, some small things he changes with the vocals, what is in the background and the foreground and so on...
Nothing special, you think ? Okay, so try this:
...try to make an edit version for yourself of that tune if you think, an edited version is better than the orginal one, cos the main melody dosen´t repeat so often again and again.
Believe me, you will find out: "Oh my god, that´s not possible to have a good result without missin´ something". Even more you cut out, even more boring this edit will be or you will say: "Damn, it´s not a full track".
I bet, you are more in temptation, to create own additions to the base melody. That´s the magic of that tune. It isn´t boring !
ACTION RADAR:
-------------------
Absolutely Non-Typical voices in a prodigy tune my first impression was as I heard the track the first time. I´m still like it how it builds up in the beginning and how it ends and the sexy voices in it.
MEDUSA´S PATH:
---------------------
Yes, this is the AONO-Track that the most people compare with CLIMBATIZE, SKYLINED, WEATHER EXPERIENCE or 3 KILOS and I totally agree with that opinion.
I like it, cos personal I like ethnic meoldys like those ones [I know, the album comepletely sounds very ethnic, but in this tune and PHOENIX these melodies dominatin the track and it stands more out here].
The really quite passage in that tune was the point where I think "Absolutely great, Liam!". Power switches off and slowly returns back. That was new to me, cos it was more intensive than in WEATHER EXPERIENCE... but I think the second part after the quite passage could be a little bit more better.
PHOENIX:
------------
The second ethnic tune - very egyptian. It´s not the best tune, it could be more a b-side for a single, but sometimes I like listen to it. Funny !
UNDER MY WHEELS:
-----------------------
"Under My Wheels" disappointed me the first months, cos of the only "Rock`n`Roll" samples and the melody, but then I came into it and really like it... I guess, it is the same like Liam describes his experience with "Meat Beat Manifesto - Radio Babylon" in his Back 2 Mine Compilation.
But UNDER MY WHEELS is not perfect for me - the perfect version of this track is a self-made combination between all the available versions of it, I think.
THE WAY IT IS:
------------------
Before the album was released; I read in an interview, that there will be a track in it, that contains a sample of "Thriller" and I only expected i.e. that zombie laughin at the end of the original track, or a snippet of the original main melody, Liam later used to put in Live, but no... it was a complete full part, that was extremely used in the Michale Jacksons Thriller-Video, that every arse knows.
Me as an old Michael Jackson Fan was laughing about that track. It was an extremely simple idea to make a tune just of one passage of "Thriller" and it definetly works for me. Why I never had such a simple idea ? Great, Liam
SHOOT DOWN:
-----------------
In my opinion the worst track on AONO is "Shoot Down". Don´t misunderstand me, it is a great tune, but if you know what trigger was and what Liam does with that track... most people will agree with me here, but OK, it depends on that what you like.
[I hope for a Trigger version on the website, cos I really like the long instrumental-bridge in that tune].
