I saw Smokin' Aces last night for the first time and have already heard 'First Warning' before seeing the film. To be honest, I actually like the remixed version in the credits more then the soundtrack version. I like it slowed down more with the deeper low sounding beats versus the soundtrack version.

I also will add that First Warning is another example of why I should just shut up and listen to what Liam thinks from time to time. He grew cold on the song and it ended up on a soundtrack instead of new album material. When hearing it in studio version, I have to agree that it might be better served off their upcoming (let's hope) album.

But as the movie dragged and dragged (in my opinion), finally, it really heated up with the scene that went to the first warning beats. It made the movie from there on out in my opinion.

Thoughts?

it was better as a film track than an album track. one of those things that on it's own sucks but with a little visual it's spiced up

i think that originally it used to be a great track (one of their best) but it just ended as a boring instrumental. Not that is so bad but it lost the original power it used to have. When I'm listening to the live versions with Keith's great vocals (even the first ever Athens version) I just feel bad that they missed the chance to realese a proper vocal version and they lost its potential.

i can agree with that, they let things get too stale now. more time is spent letting the track sit or age than they should allow. if it's not on a single or album within a year of it's conception don't bother. i think firestarter and breathe and the trick we all played out in '95 and by '96 they were in almost everyone's cd players on a single or the album. people loved it because it was hot live and they didnt have to wait more than a year to get it in the store. now their tracks take too many turns and twists as they keep trying to perfect the already great track they had. when people hear something for longer than a year they dont tend to stay as excited. it's like a short buzz "i've finally got it!" and then not long after you're already waiting on the next thing because you've heard that track for a couple years already. their process is getting too slow now

IMO, the track losses some of its edge without the vocals. But, yeah, Liam had to get it out somewhere because in a year or two's time when the album eventually comes out, the song would be stale and old.

I think that's going to be their biggest issue to get through tbh. Their fan base and strength grew from constantly being a part of the scene for over 6 years straight. we all go on about either the pros or cons of AONO, but in the end and skipping over the singles collection we're at the 3 year marker waiting for a new album. i only choose to skip over the singles collection because in my eyes it's not really a worthy mention as the 'next album' to bridge the gap over the years. we all pretty much had every track on both discs save a couple new versions and some remixes and tracks i like to call "specific exclusive" (ie Voodoo Beats, Razor... ). by this point we'd have atleast 4 singles and a new album in a 3 year span. it's like the post fat of the land vibe again in a way.. plenty of material being made in the studio and on the road between gigs.. a mix album "dirtchamber" or in this case back to mine.. "ghost town" now first warning..

if prodigy read our forum anytime soon then here's something for them, bits of advice given to me by various acts that used to be around and along side them back in the day. i'm just putting it more or less into my words hehe.

pick it up lads pick it up, you don't build a buzz or momentum by slowing down. you're either all in or all out

But for possibly the first time ever, I disagree with Trans4mer. Seriously, maybe the first time ever. The first version of Warning in my opinion was nothing short of repetitious. The second version seemed to have more of a 'bang' factor in it, especially off the top of the song, but Keith's excessive screaming makes me want to claw my eardrums out. Normally, I love Keith's additions to Prodigy tracks. But with Warning, I think it's best left alone. Maybe someone other then Keith could add some vox down the road?

I gotta say, although I love me some Keith and Maxim vox, there are a ton of Prodigy tracks that kick serious ass without them involved. We seemed to go from all out Keith and Maxim in the now binned version of AONO to a Keith and Maxim-less version of AONO. How about next time we give the fans a little of both?

Please?

I think that if they'd made a studio version of Warning Keith wouldn't scream so excessively - it's always that he sounds scary live( Hotride 4 example ). in the studio it's different and he's not screaming so loud

Oracle you're absolutely right. The guys should not wait so long before they release smth.
