Hello I Mean by this title that exept battery, vocals and really a few keyboard nothing is played live anymore. Yes for sure, it's difficult to do. As i've read some months ago, some ppl criticysed Liam way of playing, and he answered that he only have 2 hands. Holly shit yes he have only two hands, but damn why does he don't play melody? add some special sounds more complicated? Gabber, Rock N Rool (1st version with live drums), Acid Breaks were part of this live performances BTW, dont imagine on sec that I don' love Pro anymore, but things have to be said ! Can someone confort me in my opinion or try to make me understand why Liam don't play sometimes really live (I know that it's difficult) EDIT: Please Jey, post in the rigth place, not in Download - Prodigy Live section. Moved to question. |

Well if he ever plays drums live again, he'll have to bring back Leroy to cover for him on the keyboards It's so funny seeing Liam banging on a drum lol: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ApjvJR_U ... re=related |

i feel you buddy.i'm dissapointed too with that.he hardly ever uses the keyboards live now.90% of the set is playback from his laptops.i want to see more improvisation on stage from liam's part not just a few distorted notes on some tracks and a few drum rolls when a track starts or ends. |

ever heard the sample: 'Come play my Game' keith just sings it over the sample .... BUT what ever: it rocks, it's steady and Liam can tweak every shite he can on stage and can add extra synths. Drummer looking good, Rob just needs more freedom to do his own stuff live.... Prodigy is 100% Live tho, it's not putting a cd in and let the music play... *ughs* |

yeah but is getting close to just put a cd in.watching breathe, out of space, firestarter i just sau liam plays the whole track's from the laptop, ocasionally adding some little beats from the keyboards, or some little distorded notes.and that's the whole live part from liam.thank god for the drums, the guitar and the mc skills of maxim.they really make the show 10 times stronger. i felt really happy when i saw at the shefield gig he had the new korg pads, which are excelent to manipulate sounds or even make them easy live.but sadly i don't see them anymore.if i am not mistaken at the shefield gig hehad another layout with his equipment, but after that he returned to the previous one, with the 2 laptops in front and the keyboards right and left |

I had a funny dream last night (note that now I am reading this topic for the first time, lol): Liam was playing a new tune live (probably WOF, but not quite sure), and he played it like Gabba - i.e. no playback, only keyboards. And at one point he fucked it up somehow, missing a key, so he tried to sync it, but it all sounded awkward and people were kinda confused. Anyway, my point is - better play it safe, adding a few samples here and there. I mean who will benefit if it's all played live? It would be much harder for Liam, and it would most probably not sound as good for the crowd. Prodigy's music is too complex to be played 100% live, and just creating it is worth admiring. Also, I seriously doubt that it is played in real time when making studio recordings. And btw, if you haven't noticed there are a lot more live elements nowadays than, say 10 years ago. |

i wonder how much did the change of technology and the way it was used affect the prodigy style. i mean if he was still playing the chuns the way he played gabba, would some of the later tracks ever been written? would the style evolve from mftjg (maybe this would be good)? if liam thinks he shouldnt play live-ish, theres probably a reason for it |

If I recall from an old interview, Howlett had most of his tracks pre-recorded on a DAT tape and he just added textures over the top with his keyboards, samplers and/or timbale drums, with the exception of special tracks like Gabba where loops were individually triggered. Even though he now uses laptops with Ableton Live on them, it's still based on the same concept. It's still technically the same, except now he can adapt and remix the pre-recorded elements in realtime if need be. This allows him to add personality to the performances, which is paramount to a live sound that interacts well with the audience. Yeah, this'll reduce his time beating the shit out of his keyboards but if it means a subtly different arrangement each time then I'm all for it! Sure, I'd be honoured to see him jiggle about like a madman with some drumsticks again but the band's style and techniques have changed entirely. The stage pizazz is entirely different...that comes with the evolution of the band. Here's a thought: what about the Experience era - he did even less on stage! In a nutshell, why bother dreaming of the past? Get with the times or you'll end up like a hippy wanting to stay in the 60's! |

i mean the final versions of some tracks where analized from the beta ones.... i bet he has those tokyo 06 ones cuz like that for me was the turning point for prodigy, keiths vocals sounded so badass, i miss hotride 05. but yeah liams doing ALOT on stage now, everything gets triggered by liam, he doesn't just press play, listen to action radar link and i bet u, you will never ever find a version exatcly the same as another. |

I never understood why Liam doesn't cut the vocals out from tracks like Mindfields, Poison (like in the Maida Vale version, that is one of the reasons why it's so great, giving more of a "live" feel to it)... in fact, every track where Maxim sings/shouts over the vocal samples.. Maybe he leaves it that way so the vocals would have greater impact at live shows.. or so Maxim could keep his voice throughout the whole gig.. (there are no vocals in Firestarter and Breathe which both have instrumental versions, with Breathe having the "come play my game" part in it.. which goes nice with the "pressing Play & Stop" story ) But I don't really care for that "are they really doing it live" thing, I've been to only 2 gigs so far and I'm still hungry for more . It's still enough for me just to see and hear The Prodigy playing their stuff.. Liam could as well put the CD in, I would still have a great time |

I agree with you, but i don't really care, the only thing i would see is more SOLO by rob like used to do Gizz Butt on Firestarter at Phoenix 1996. We already had this discussion about Liam pressing a button and WMP starts.... But the new tunes are more and more complicated, andothers band such as Daft Punk or even the Chemical Brothers which are 2, use sampler, that i say similar as a computer. I mean it is why not, if the show is still here! http://fr.youtube.com/watch?v=GZ8iFwlYBrI |

But please Liam if you read this lines, play more keybords! forget the keyboards, they are just for feng shui now. i remember at the shefield gig, in the photos you could see a different layout of liam's equipment.and in the photos there was the korg kaospad and the kaos kp3(i think) and i was so happy cause you can use them for improvisation or to manipulate samples and beats live.but now i see they are gone and i am sorry.also when i saw the oldschool synths i thought he would improvise more on them, but now in the recent videos posted i only see him using the laptops and the virus sampler 99% of the time and like 3 times pushing a couple of keys on the keybords from liam's right(his point of vue, not ours in front of the stage) |
