When they zoom in on Liam during live shows, all I ever see him do is start a track on his laptop, or smack up a few keys on his keyboard.

What does he actually add to the live sound?

Also, I read somewhere that Liam himself went on one of these forums because he was angry that someone was saying he doesn't do anything at all live, and he said what he does.. But I didn't get to read what he actually said.
Does anyone know about this?

He definitely plays extra synth parts over the top of tracks live n like u said he also starts the tracks himself from his laptops.

Here's one example of him adding synth parts...

You can him playing 2 mins 7 secs in

I did see a video somewhere last year with an interview with the guy that mixes the sound during live shows, he himself has quite a lot of control over Maxim and Keith's mics n often triggers fx on them here n there.

most live acts who use ableton split their tracks into loops and extra parts, with ease they can change things like this and extend or whatever, back to school always had a different time because of this, though its more controlled to end at a regular time, its proof this is how he plays his tracks live, and of course he does live keyboard play.

in a way its like pressing play but its more controlled and you have more options to do what you want with the track

I did try searching for other threads. My other question was basically how was Liam pissed off?

Originally someone called "mallorca" on Nekozine said Liam doesn't do anything live apart from press a button to start each track. Liam angrily replied with a 'Diary' entry on the Official Prodigy Website. It is on one of the old Prodigy websites: -
http://www.theprodigy.dk/theirlaw/index2.html
then 'Present', 'Diary', 'Diary Archive' & '23/08/05'

who the fuck is this prick mallorca--never erd of him.obviously didnt leave any impression with me and i certainly wouldnt party with any dude that calls himself that! he wouldnt last 5 mins in a room with me and flinty. sounds like some balleric nonsence.

The funny thing is, unless people had read the Nekozine thread most people would have had no idea what Liam was replying to.

A lot of Liam's Diary entries were direct answers to things posted on Nekozine. I'm sure it won't surprise many to know that Liam was (and maybe still is?) an active reader of Nekozine.

I remember his "let me tell you dicks what I do on stage" rant.

He must get sick of getting asked I guess, and I suppose people who are in the industry would be more curious than the average fan.

Liam's doing the most things on stage. But I agree that he's not doing as much as he was in the early 90s where you could see him playing all intro's of songs live. Nowadays most of this goes via his laptop

I disagree, I still think he plays a lot of fills and triggers key samples. Last time saw a close up of his kit I saw a keyboard rigged up with an NN-XT in reason, which I guess he would use like his old W30's.

:rofl1:
I remember reading this and thinking WTF!?
Now I understand what actually went on (after 4 years of wondering lol!)

So if Liam maybe looked on there ... does that mean Liam maybe browses on here if ever...

Woa that would mean ... we are being *whispers* watched ...

Anyway's back on subject I do believe Liam has a big input when everything's live - which leads me to the conclusion that he dont just press a start and stop button.
I agree with Tom about the laptops though its a good point. as technology has progressed and I assume with that Liam maybe does less than he perhaps did in the early 90's.
:-D

You just run an automation, now!

I'm pretty sure Liam triggers loads of samples and layers. I must say most tracks do still sound like the album versions (with additions) though; there are so many Prodigy tracks that are just too hard to play live that only parts could be played, altered and/or triggered... As long as the live feeling is there and there is fresh material (fills/remixes/new tracks), I honestly don't mind how it's being played live. I'm busy bouncing and jumping like a mad fuck at those moments. To me it's just a big plus to hear those tiny new elements, without the tracks being really different from what I expect. Last year, No Good sounded godly with those additions... while still sounding like the old (album) version, just... you know... fresh, and (a)live.

Now you mention it yeah, I know exactly what you mean, Jericho was the same, definitely had something else added to it n make it sound fresh, extra beats n that.
I think the Chemical Bros had the same doubt over how much of their live sets was actually 'live', but there was some footage on youtube of them doing soundchecks n going back n forth mixing one song with others, kinda proves to the disbelievers that they do have a lot of control over everything when they play live.
