What are the moments that you think are iconic in the history of The Prodigy?

Could be whatever you feel personally as a moment in your life or whatever you think made the band step up to the next level.

It could be good or bad.

I'll start with a moment that has been i think mostly forgotten by everyone if they were not aware of it before.

The Prodigy played a private gig in Russia some time in 2007 to a select few and vip types *cough*mafia*cough*. The crowd probably amounted to 100-150 people at a guess and the videos that surfaced showed that they were going though the motions and looked bored at stages. Unfortunatly the youtube links have ceased to exist but maybe someone here has downloads of it. The gig gave way to a lot of divided opinions here as seen by the topic found here. Personally, I couldn't care less that they did played a gig to bored pissed up Russians but whatever paid for the completion of IMD has to be pretty decent.

Its iconic to me because it shattered the illusion of them being 'underground'. They are just another band at the end of the day.

So if you have moments you feel are iconic, stick em up here.

They are underground because of music.

They are not, also because of music.

But this is my own opinion.

1996 I was watching Board Stupid on Channel 4, Sunday morning.. I knew the guys were on and had my video set to record. Before this show the prodigy I knew were the rave gods who through mftgj had started to have a more refined, raw and live edge.

They had interviews throughout the show, general banter and as a 14 year old I sat in awe watching them until the very end of the video... they then played an instrumental segment of Firestarter, the first real new material from the Prodigy for a while...

Hearing for the first time that guitar sound, the beats and Art of Noise samples... it sounded totally alien, like nothing else I'd ever heard. They had flirted with guitars before, live they were developing their sound but this track totally blew my head off.

I sat all day rewinding the video, playing it again and again... just with pure excitement, the same excitement I had when I first head No Good. I knew this was a completely new sound and energy but had no idea what it would mean... that track changed everything for the Prodigy.

There are loads more moments after that, hearing SMBU for the first time on the breathe tour to hearing WoF for the first time in Sheffield but this was a massive turning point.

And Stule as for underground... seeing them on a catwalk going through the motions on MTV in 1997 pissed me off just as much!

About 2/3 months before in January, before that there had been nothing in terms of new sounds so the last thing I'd heard from them was the Poison single

For me the iconic moment has to be when I played the first few seconds of Firestarter after buying the CD the day it came out from Abbey discs in Liffey Street, Dublin.

Had been a huge fan a few years at the time and had only listened to Experience and Jilted stuff along with some bad quality live recordings.

The tune blew me away!! Never heard anything like it before.

Then I seen them later that December in the Point Depot ....

Tore the roof off the place !! Those were the days :D

I forgot about that! Yeah that just smacked of them wanting to crack America badly. Plus Madonna's Maverick label might have had something to do with it.

Yeah totally, it's funny as now EDM is all over the place but back in 96/7 they were smashing the back out of the US!
