Ridley Scott’s Prometheus to Film in the UK at Pinewood Studios
21 March 2011

Ridley Scott’s new movie, Prometheus is growing traction with every passing day with casting news coming out of ours ears but what we want to know is, where is the movie going to shoot?

US movie trade magazine, The Hollywood Reporter recently ran an article saying that Scott’s new feature, is to shoot at Pinewood Studios, Toronto but Ridley Scott has been talking with The Daily Mail to reveal that the movie will film at Pinewood Studios in London, specifically on the huge 007 Stage as well as six other sound stages.

"I’m using the giant James Bond 007 stage at Pinewood and six other sound stages to film it"

http://www.heyuguys.co.uk/2011/03/21/ri ... d-studios/

A small correction. The shoot at Canada's Pinewood studios was/is scheduled to last only three weeks so it was obvious that most of the studio shooting was to be made elsewhere. So Hollywood Reporter was in fact right with it's report. I assume the filming in Canada is FX related.

Ridley Scott’s Prometheus Set Report
28 March 2011

A lucky film student had a chance to hit the set and has revealed a whole pile of interesting details on the film in a post on the IMDB boards.

"It should rank as one of the highlights of my life so far. I am a screen-writing student in Ottawa and our class had a 3 day visit to Toronto to pitch our ideas to the studios. After the usual meetings with script editors and agents I, all alone, made my way to the studio. I have never seen production facilities in my life and it sure left an impression. [It was] like a huge warehouse overlooking the sea. I walked in the facility and could see huge RVs all around. I went around asking some officials if they knew where Prometheus was being shot and as it turned out- It was the only movie being shot at the moment. I met one of the guards or officials and talked to him for around twenty minutes.

He told me that there is a set piece which is 3 blocks high and one of the most “alien” things he has ever seen. The highlight was when he said they had built two massive spaceships or some futuristic vehicle which was very un-futuristic. I was confused but realized what he meant was the spaceships would probably be very un-glossy. Something like a night-mare of a ship and the Nostromo came to mind automatically. I asked him about Ridley but he said he wasn’t around…"

I think its a safe bet that the large space ship that they speak of is the one with the long dead pilot (space jockey).

Exclusive: Noomi Rapace On Prometheus
27 March 2011

If Lord Lucan reappeared to direct a film about the Wombles, it'd struggle to match Ridley Scott's Prometheus for secrecy. While the web melts down under the weight of speculation about the movie's mythology and storyline, we think Scott may have threatened to run over any cast member who spills the beans with one of his brother's trains.

Thanks, then, to Noomi Rapace for sharing a few titbits on her character, scientist Elizabeth Shaw, when we caught up with her at the Jameson Empire Awards. "She’s not that damaged which for me is kind of nice," laughed the one-time Lisbeth Salander, now a week into filming at Pinewood. "She has an inner strength that is quite beautiful and a pureness too. She’s very obsessed with finding out something."

Rapace wouldn't elaborate on what exactly that thing is but it could answer to the name 'voracious xenomorph'. So will Prometheus mirror the psychological horror of Alien? “Yes, kind of," says Rapace. "What I like so much about the Alien movies is that they’re out there in space and it’s weird, but [the characters] are very human and very down to earth. That’s what [Ridley] created and that’s who he is, and I think we’ll probably see that again on this one."

Post-Dragon Tattoo, The Swedish actress is in serious demand but one project that hangs in the balance is David Slade's vampire flick The Last Voyage Of Demeter, with a possible scheduling clash in the offing. "I do hope [I can do it] but I don't know," says Rapace, "I’m occupied until late July or August."

Rapace, a convert to the joys of London since moving to the city in September to prep for Prometheus, is still weighing her option for when the sci-fi wraps later this year. "For the moment I don’t want to decide what to do next," she explains, "I think I’d like to do something quite small."

RUMOR: Major Details Emerge On 'Prometheus'
5 April 2011

Since we first heard whispers about 'Prometheus', it's been hidden behind and extremely thick shroud of secrecy, and not much has changed other than a few possible spoilers and plot details that have "leaked" out.

According to the site MarketSaw, a very trusted site of theirs has revealed how 'Prometheus' will fit into the 'Alien' universe. As I said, these spoilers definitely fit in with what we've heard from other sources so far but either way, take them with a grain of salt for now.

Possible Major Spoilers Ahead

"Ridley Scott’s sci-fi movie, currently going by the name Prometheus, is going to be a very large and intense story, with a scope that is epic, the final act is where the movie switches gears and shifts into Aliens territory. Pinewood houses an exact replica of the H R Giger Space Jockey command post. You may notice in the original Alien that the Space Jockey had a puncture on its considerably large chest, where the xenomorph broke out through the flesh of the creature and broke through the biomechanical armor it wears. You may also notice how big the Space Jockey is in relation to its human counter parts in the film. So imagine how big the baby must be, which is yet to grow. Then imagine quite a few of these. If you can do that, you got a pretty good grasp on the final act."

On how the xenomorphs will be different from the previous films:

"And do not be expecting the traditional look either, these are very different creatures that will keep the general architecture of the xenomorph, but will have a considerably different look, and do very perverse things.

And here's the last bit of spoilers for you guys:

"However, before all of this I hear that the story is not only reminiscent of 2001, but is also trying to push the boundaries of what a modern tent pole science fiction movie could be. This is all I can share, but trust me, you seriously need to start being excited about this project, because not only is this I am assured, not nostalgia for nostalgia reasons, but a whole new spin on that old chestnut … The story is a very closely guarded secret in Hollywood, and while it is not a direct prequel “officially” it has more than just passing ties towards the Alien saga’s canon. You will have all the things that worked in the Alien canon, and very new and fresh and some controversial ideas presented, sexuality is dealt with quite directly. There may even be a robot or two. And the ship, which I am told is the current titles name, Prometheus. Highly original, both in concept and design I hear."

I think basically every bit of information apart from the already confirmed cast falls safely in the rumor category at this stage.

I do hope it will be the 2001 with aliens sci-fi epic as the "spoilers" claim though... Image

Well, I meant rumours as in something not officially confirmed.

The 2001 bit certainly makes perfect common sense. It's already been stated by Ridley and his Lost writer that Prometheus aims for something more grandiose in scope than the original film or films. Add to that the fact that 2001 was according to Ridley himself an inspiration to him already at the time he made the first Alien.

‘Prometheus’: Michael Fassbender on Ridley Scott’s ‘Breathtaking’ Project
8 April 2011

Michael Fassbender is just three weeks into the filming of Ridley Scott’s “Prometheus” but the star says the experience is a dazzling one already.

“I walk on the set and I feel like I’m walking on a spaceship,” Fassbender said. “It’s breathtaking. All the various panels and screens and it’s just dealing with a top-notch art department and carpenters and the riggers and everything that goes into putting that together. It’s just, well, breathtaking, all of it.”

The June 2012 release, which also stars Charlize Theron, was originally conceived as a prequel to Scott’s 1979 classic “Alien” but veered off in other directions to become a stand-alone project (or, perhaps, is still a prequel and is simple being disguised to preserve some mystery). Fassbender wasn’t at liberty to say too much about the film but I asked him if the character he’s portraying has been especially elusive or if the contours are made clear by the script. “I feel I’ve got it at my fingertips, it’s there but challenging and, you know, I’m excited. I’ve got a few ideas that I’m running with and I think I’ve got a grasp on it but it’s always something that, organically, moving on its own course. I’m having a lot of fun with it. There’s a lot of interesting quirks and niches to him and I’m having a lot of fun exploring it.”

Even though it’s still in the early days on the set, Fassbender said interacting with Scott has been a career moment for him. “It’s great. He’s just so precise and fun and mischievous and just full of interesting and quirky ideas for the character. They come to you in passing but then he lets you run with it and there’s a lot of freedom there. I’m really just enjoying it and everything in general, the whole crew is so veteran and talented from all departments down, the camera, wardrobe, makeup, props, the works — you’ve got the cream of the crop and it’s an honor just to be allowed to be part of it.”

“Prometheus” will arrive 30 years to the month after Scott’s “Blade Runner” and, shockingly, it will be the director’s first sci-fi film since that classic starring Harrison Ford, Sean Young and Rutger Hauer. Fassbender, who will be in theaters in a big way this summer in the role of the young Magneto in Fox’s “X-Men: First Class,” said “Blade Runner” holds a special place in his heart as a film fan.

“It’s my favorite movie. I just love that movie. And really I love all the different versions, I just don’t care, I love that world and whatever you want to take from it you can take from it, nothing is fore-set in any way. I love that it’s a very feasible futuristic place, and again that quality that you’re in a thriller but you don’t know it. There’s always something at play and everyone has an agenda but none of it is really openly expressed.”
