Oh and the marketing department for this film needs to be shot. If you seen the trailers, the featurettes and a couple of tv spots you virtually saw the whole movie, beginning to end, minus 2 monster scenes. Seriouisly, wtf Fox?
I believe that Fox in their greed pressured Ridley to make a two hour cut of the movie and it shows in the editing. Studios often pressure directors to keep the running length at that because it means more screenings per day and thus more money. Mark my word, there's going the be a longer cut of the movie coming out in the future. Ridley actually almost admitted that in one of BBC's interviews. I don't think the soundtrack was horrible. It's just way different from what we're used to with the Alien movies.
True about the trailers and whatnots. More of Fox's greediness.

Gonna go for a third one tonight !
Yeah I was already starting about it in the car back home after the movie. I hope you liked my view on what I think is the best sci-fi since the original Alien movie.

With Prometheus, Ridley Scott Makes Sci-Fi Horrifyingly Believable Again
6 June 2012
Anaheim, California — On a recent afternoon, the man who made two sci-fi masterpieces twirled crumpled water bottles back and forth across a table to illustrate his gift for making imaginary worlds seem utterly believable.
“It’s like a big miniature Lego kit that you’re building into a giant house, except every part is not the same size — it’s slightly different,” said Ridley Scott, cocking his head to scrutinize the plastic building blocks he used as impromptu props. “You get the parts to plumb, and you get the house complete and you turn it around and you go, ‘I need a bit here, I need a bit there … and that doesn’t work so well.’ It’s a constant evolution.”
Few filmmakers shepherd a story from page to screen with the mastery of detail that Scott demonstrates as a matter of course; fewer still match his gift for visualizing dread, fear and loathing. So it’s hardly a surprise that cineastes and sci-fi geeks alike are drooling over Scott’s scary new 3-D space epic Prometheus, which opens Friday in the United States. With stunning visuals, a grim, atmospheric vibe and a story that probes some of mankind’s deepest questions, it’s a welcome alternative to the sugary summer slate of feel-good movies — a bracing shot of smoky Scotch in comparison to The Avengers‘ bubbly (although undeniably delicious) supersized soda.
Scott left his indelible dark mark on sci-fi when he grafted the austere visual stylings of 2001: A Space Odyssey with rib-splitting terror inspired by The Texas Chain Saw Massacre in his landmark 1979 thriller Alien. Three years later, the British director set the standard for dystopian cinema with Blade Runner, which realized Philip K. Dick’s vision of an acid-rain-soaked Los Angeles hellscape circa 2019 populated by robotic replicants that snapped Harrison Ford’s fingers when they weren’t posing fundamental questions about what it is that makes someone truly human.
And then, Scott quit science fiction. “I couldn’t find anything of interest,” he told a WonderCon audience in March.
So Scott explored other genres. He made the zeitgeist-defining feminist road movie Thelma & Louise. He painted a blood-soaked portrait of ancient Rome in the Oscar-winning Gladiator. For unnervingly realistic war movie Black Hawk Down, he captured the panic of a U.S. military intervention gone horribly awry in a dusty Somali city.
Scott revisits the sci-fi realm with the R-rated Prometheus, a film vaguely tied to his Alien universe. Shot over the course of nine months in Canada, England, Spain and Iceland for an estimated $150 million, the film represents a brilliant return to form: A majestic opening sequence sets the story in motion for a crew of earthlings who embark in 2093 on a scientific mission to uncover the origins of human life on a distant planet. There, the explorers get sucked into a vortex of extraterrestrial terror animated by Scott’s influential blend of brainy science fiction and brute beauty.

ComingSoon.net (9/10):
"A fantastic film that really should be accepted on its own merits as science fiction filmmaking at its finest rather than as anything that connects directly with 'Alien'."
www.comingsoon.net/prometheus review
MSN Movies (4.5/5):
"Every shot in this film is a multi-layered wonder; there are segments in which Scott seems hell-bent on out-Finchering David Fincher. Damned if he doesn't get there on multiple occasions."
"This is a remarkably scary and eye-popping headrush of a movie, an experience that offers a maximum adrenaline boost at the same time as it engages your intelligence. Don't miss it."

Unused Concept Art for Prometheus
6 June 2012
After the jump, check out some concept art revealing unused (and used) ideas for Ridley Scott's latest film Prometheus, which can be seen in theaters now. Warning, there are Spoilers ahead.
Ridley Scott's Prometheus chronicles the previous events that occurred before Alien. While not a direct prequel, it does serve to answer a few questions that remained a mystery in the original film. The film has been met with generally positive reviews, and can be seen in theaters now. Now, some images have surfaced online that were featured in the upcoming book 'Prometheus: The Art of the Film'. They seem to be a few unused concepts that were created to generate some ideas for the film. However, even though they were directly disregarded, some ideas behind them were used in the film, and contain spoilers. Check them out (from the link below).

Ridley Scott Explains 'Prometheus,' Explores Our Past, and Teases Future 'Alien' Stories
5 June 2012
Sir Ridley Scott appears to be feeling reflective. After directing a string of impressively original features that include American Gangster, Kingdom of Heaven, the underrated Matchstick Men, and Black Hawk Down, Scott is revisiting his earliest classics. He’s prepping a sequel to his seminal sci-fi thriller Blade Runner, according to reports. And this weekend, Scott unleashes a meditative companion piece to his pioneering horror masterpiece, Alien.
Don’t excuse nostalgia for Scott resting on his laurels. Prometheus asks some very big questions about life, existence, the afterlife, and the alien influences on our home planet. It also boasts breathtaking performances by Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace. But it’s with those philosophical and religious mysteries that I chose to start with Scott for our exclusive one-on-one interview.
Be warned! Scott was very open and specific about Prometheus. As a result, there is a lot of detail in this interview that you might not want to know until after you’ve seen Prometheus. Please proceed with caution!

Like I said earlier it's a very different beast than your usual Alien movie. I suggest you watch the movie again free of expectations. Expecting a certain kind of experience and then not getting it can really screw a movie watching experience. Quote: can somebody please explain me the first scene thank you..
SPOILER(S) WARNING!
The first scene explained and more. An Engineer sacrifices himself by drinking the mysterious black goo to give birth to life on a desolate planet. That scene is there to describe how human race as we know it got it's start on earth. The black goo is a key element in the movie. It's to Prometheus what the equally mysterious black monolith was to '2001: The Space Odyssey.' Mixed with a living DNA the black goo makes it cause all kinds of wild mutations. In the beginning by sacrificing himself the Engineer lets his DNA mixed with the black goo go free in the river to kick start evolution of the species. Later in the movie we see this black goo cause all kind of crazy shit. Based on we see in the movie this black goo can be engineered to work in different ways, both good and bad. The black goo found on LV-223 was described as a weapon so it has to be assumed that it was engineered to cause all kinds of bad shit i.e. crazy mutations. Be it humans or other species or life forms. Judging from what we saw in the movie, dropping the black goo bomb load of the Engineer ship on earth, as the sole living Engineer tried to do, would have caused the whole of human race to kill each other. Mixed with worms and a sperm cell it turned them basically to similiar creatures as the facehuggers in Alien movies. Species that live to pregnate other living organisms. Thus we saw what seemed like a queen Alien baby come out of the Engineer (see the Queen Alien relief from the movie above). And Queen Aliens of course are the ones that hatch the Alien facehugger eggs...

What were you expecting by the way?
It's allways worth remembering that Alien is essentially a B Movie done in an A movie way. (Ridley Scott wanted it to feel like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre in space.) (also, Alien is VERY DERIVATIVE from older bmovies like "Planet of the Vampires".)
people who are expecting to see a typical creature feature with tons of xenomorphs should understand that the movie doesnt have "ALIEN" anywhere in the title.

Quote: What were you expecting by the way?
a good storyline, I hate when trailers DO NOT rappresent the movie. We see in the trailer Charlize "If you go down there, you gonna die" and they make you think she is talking with the crew.
Maybe I'm too old for this shit, but this movie has to do anything with Alien afterall? I was expecting to see a prequel yeah but all I got is more questions:
who created the Aliens?
who created Engineers?
what was that octopus at the end?
What did David to the Doctor with that drink? was that blood of the engineers?
If the engineers created life on earth, why this one was about to destroy it?
Peter Weyland was looking for what?
is there gonna be a sequel?
maybe I need to watch if few more times, I've seen it in russian then in english poor quality damn this one is gonne be in theaters in Italy on october 19th
