most of it looks pretty cool... though the aliens look straight out of a Disney movie...

I liked the trailer, especially the floating forest islands things. That shot looked awesome. I'm glad the avatars don't look too goofy and fit in with that colorful world.

The trailer does not in any way live up to the hype that this most anticipated movie of the past two years or so has been associated with. Most blame in this regard goes to master hypester James Cameron himself. He has been preaching and preaching about unforseen levels of realism. About how the CGI in Avatar is going to blow away everything that has been seen before. Unfortunately it seems that is far from the truth. 90% plus of the trailer looks like a video game. And on top of that the Na’vi creatures look daft. Coming from the acclaimed director of Aliens (1986), The Abyss (1989) and Terminator 2 (1991) & 1 (1984) it really is a disappointment. The forementioned movies, especially the first three, still look far more realistic and impressive than Avatar.

'The Curious Case Of Benjamin Button' (2008) from David Fincher, the master of realistic CGI use, already did what Avatar was supposed to do. It surpassed the uncanny valley which Avatar clearly fails to do even in some of the more simpler human/military involving scenes. CGI plus saturated colors makes the graphics look unrealistic no matter what. Desaturation and natural colors are key elements in achiving realism and Cameron with Avatar has done the complete opposite. And he goes even further by adding dreamy fuzziness to images which is something you see a lot in video games. Sure it all looks beautiful in an artificial way but used in a movie it prevents you from believing in what you see which waters down the experience.

I've been interested in this for a long time, now I'm not so sure. Some of the visuals were amazing, and I could tell from the shots it was James Cameron. Not sure about those blue dudes, or any of it. I'm confused, but still I have hope...

I have to say that while I don't like the computer game look of the movie nor the design of the Na'vi aliens the trailer works exceptionally well in a theater setting.

Still think that this film will only work on a huge cinema screen. With that (and 3D) you get the atmosphere that really helps getting into it. On a smaller screen it's propably going to be like watching a video game. Still very much looking forward of seeing the finished product.
