In Silico is brilliant!!

Everyone compares it to Hold Your Colour, and they say 'they should continue typical Drum and Bass' but I think its much better than Hold Your Colour.

They have stepped forward, congratulations for them.

3. NIN - Ghosts I-IV

4. Does It Offend You, Yeah? - You Have No Idea What You're Getting Yourself Into

5. Crystal Castles - Crystal Castles

6. The Raconteurs - Consolers Of The Lonely

9. Tricky - Knowle West Boy

10. Portishead - Third

disappointments? auchetre - 'quaristice', unkle - 'end titles', nightmares on wax - 'thought so', pendulum - 'in silico'

average lp's: primal scream - 'beautiful future', junkie xl - 'booming back at you', moby - 'last night', sigur ros - 'með suð í eyrum við spilum endalaust', cool kids of death - 'afterparty', tv on the radio - 'dear science'.

You smell like a mix of rotten banana, dead skunk, various 2 week old roadkill, and an elephant's cunt. :-D

 Anyway, I think In Silico is bad to some people cause it isn't hardcore D'nB. They expect Pendulum to make another Hold Your Colour, but instead they choose a different approach. If you can get your mind of the D'nB that you set your mind to... I'm sure In Silico is a nice piece of work.

It's just too different (cause it has like Howard Jones influences among many others from '70/'80), so people bash it. It's very simple. A lot of people expect In Silico to be HYC part 2, but it's not.... I'm happy with that change. That's what's always happening with different music. As an example, look at Radiohead for instance, or Chemical Brothers, even Prodigy..! They have loads of haters. The people simply say it's shit cause the music is different and changes direction all the time. They just don't understand..: the music and the artists are not the problem, the big crowd that listens to the music is the problem. Most people hate change cause they assume the artists do what the crowd likes... If that was the case, Prodigy would still be making Out of Space-like tracks... orrrrrr Prodigy wouldn't exist anymore cause they got boring and/or people lost interest (cause they do the same shit over and ooooover again).

I like most of the changes over the years from different artists, it keeps the band alive and enthousiastic. People got to understand artists should continue to evolve even if you don't want them too: you are not the band now are you?

Yeah man!!!
A lot of my classmates find ridicolous Tarantula and Blood Sugar, but they like Mutiny and Granite and Propane Nightmares.

I agree with you in 100%.

With the change bands lose fans but gets new ones.

Yeah it definetly depends on your own ears in the end. I just don't like people running around bitching and moaning about it... it's not gonna change much you know? You don't like it... accept it, then move along. Same thing if you like it... don't try to convert people just cause you think it's good. That's fucking annoying.

lightweight pop dnb for the mass market

Aside from your opinion on it... you do it yourself. You put a lable on it, calling it 'lightweight' and 'D'nB'. Pendulum is not even D'nB (anymore). Compared to what anyway? Why do you even try to compare to a complete genre if Pendulum does something completely different from that? In Silico will stand NO chance to the D'nB culture cause it simply just isn't D'nB'. Sure, as D'nB is sucks monkey balls... But if you get it out of THAT context (iIn Silico being D'nB), it's definetly an interesting piece of work. Why is it lightweight? Aren't the snares loud and fast enough? Why does it need a lable? Is it meant to be pure D'nB then? It reminds me of a quote: 'Prodigy is shitty punk music.' Completely unfair statement. It contains traces of punk, sure... but it doesn't make Prodigy punk now does it?

Anyway, I sure respect your opinion on not liking In Silico... you do what you like! But just don't mark it with the basic labels and compare it with a cmplete genre. It sounds kind of rediculous. I hope you get my point, no offense, I like a heatened discussion you know? If Pendulum wants to distance from D'nB as a genre and/or do something weird/different with it... you should include that in your verdict as well.

Not including compilations, I've not really been following that many new albums this year so I'll just list a few that I loved.

Danny Bird - Supersized
Chase and Status - More Than Alot
London Elektricity - Syncopated City

They're all drum and bass I know... :P but they're seriously worth checking out, especially Supersized.

I wish I could put Moby's "Last Night" in this list but I wasn't really impressed with it tbh. It had some great tracks (e.g Alice and The Stars) but the majority wasn't worth listening to. Same for In Silico. I liked "9000 Miles" after about 2 mins and "Midnight Runner" gets sick after half way. It's just that for the rest of the album I felt Rob's production had strongly decreased leaving most of the album with the same beats and too much simplicity.
