Sick of seeing 'true fans' downloading albums/singles long before their release date I couldn't resist from making post on forum to get some moral support, so if You think that dl'ing leaks (or just pirate copies after release date) is ok then don't post here!

Not thinking of particular fans here now (there is no full album leak yet, right?) but noticed new Franz Ferdinand album available for two weeks now (with release date two weeks from now) getting reviews here and there from 'fans'...

I'm looking for at least on reply, please!

I declare that I won't listen to new album (or tracks) unless legally aired/bought.

I respect your decision to wait for the album to come out before downloading but what difference do you think it makes if you wait for the album to come out? If the album is already leaked and everyone is downloading it why does it matter? Will downloading it early prevent you from buying it? I know that I will be buying the album as soon as it is released. Are you saying it makes me less of a fan if I download it early even with plans of buying it the day of release or even already having it pre-ordered? Not trying to start a fight over it I just wanted to hear your opinion.

I didn't wanted to question being fan, because for me it's about morality (which is something that You have for Yourself, not for others - like being declared fan) but yes, I think that it can make You worse fan . I'm no saint so I would judge cases differently, I know that in some countries it may be impossible to get the album, or overwhelming money problems could be an explanation, but downloading leaks, just because everyone else does, especially when You're going to buy album anyway just can't be with being decalred great fan of the band. One of two, thats my opinion. I won't judge anyone publicly because I got no rights to. I'm not the band, nor the saint, but if You planned to do above, I suggest You rethink that.

it is like having sex before marriage. how could it be possibly an immoral thing? a true fan is someone who loves the band, not someone who is loyal to the commercial needs of anyone..

Yeah, i reconsidered that. This don't have influence of being fan.

I think that's just immoral.

True fan will download any leaked material to see what is it about, and then he buys the cd when it comes up, even if he didnt like the leaked one. Every one here downloaded AONO 2 months before it comes to shops because eveyone here was waiting fuckin 7 years to hear new album, i ran to to shop first day when AONO to buy it, even if it was expensive (in poland albums cost your 2 days of hard work).

Here is the true. If someone wants to download only, so there is no difference for him if he will download leaked material, or ripped cd after its premiere. If you are true fan you will buy the record, even if you already have it on your hdd.

How come this could be theft if im gonna pay for the album when it comes??

Dont make your self a fuckin saint here, u want to say you never ever downloaded something from the internet?? all your music you have is a legal copy on cd's?? i dont belive it.
Im a thief?? like 99% of people here, and just like you:).
Or you maybe thinking that downloading prodigy stuff is a theft, but downloading anything besides prodigy is a good thing for ya?
If any leak will happen i will d/l it because im curious about new stuff, and i want some new fuckin music to hear, when it comes to shops, i will be in a front of you in a shop row buying the record, and smiling that Liam gave as his new masterpiece, that is worth every damn pound ( in our case Zlotych)

Downloading official material isn´t good. Not for the mainstream music industry itself, they earn enough money, but it isn´t good for the band and shows kind of disrespect to them IMO.

If you a fan of a band you should BUY their material, else they don´t get money [support] for their work, no money for the tours, arrangement, etc. etc. Nothing is free nowadays, also for music bands. And with every bought article you give your kind of respect and say "Wow, you´re doin a great work!"

Like Liam said: "If you like it, buy it. If you don´t, then don´t !"

Is it a reason to say "I´m hungry for new material, so I´m gonna download leaked stuff and if I like it, I will buy it !" ???

This could be an argument, but think about that every leak into the internet is nothing more than a link EVERYBODY could find and everyone could download it. We should be honest and realistic: I think only 5 % of that persons who found that link says: "Yeah, great stuff, i will deffo buy that as original release!" So - 95 % don´t care about it. This is a lot of persons. Also downloads could be shared. One download source can feed
everybody in theory. So better be patient concerning new material - I know, it´s hard, but think about it.

Another point is: This place here is brainkiller [IMO the best prodigy fan community] and we have the rule not to share commercially available material here, cos WE RESPECT THE PRODIGY ! That´s a great and good point.

The fact we know, Liam, Maxim and Keith reading this forum sometimes and follow it´s development is kind of respect from them [Prodigy] to all the brainkiller-members here. I think we could be proud of it, to be known by prodigy, cos we support them by talking about them, give them also ideas or helpful suggestions, sometimes critics and discussions about our tastes.

I guess we would loose respect by prodigy if we would say: "C´mon - fuck the rules, share and leak what you want !" BTW: Great work of all the moderators here, which lock topics and delete links concerning shared official material!

So we should take the respect as a gift and we shouldn´t loose it, cos as we are proud being prodigy fans, the prodigy should be proud of us fans, too. We´re not stealing their music, we´re buying this.

I´m against downloading / uploading music before and after it´s out in the shops. But I must admit, sometimes it is hard to handle.

Examples:

1] Release unofficial before, than officially confirmed and released:

Example:
Radio 1 Session with "Firestarter", "Voodoo People", "Poison", "Spitfire"

Every track was shared here in different qualities. Everything was fine, cos it was only available there on Radio 1 UNTIL "Voodoo" and "Poison" become album tracks on "More Music For The Jilted Generation"

So, not to do something against the rules, theoretical it´s not allowed anymore to share "Voodoo" and "Poison", but the other two tracks.

2] Official tracks allowed as radio rip, but only in weak quality ????

Actually there is this "Omen" thing. I think it is okay to say "I rip it from the radio session, cos quality is shite [64 kBit/s], someone talks into the beginning and at the end of the track, the mix-up is awful. All those are reasons to say "Hey, it´s not a 100% copy of official material".

I think, it´s okay to share that rip, cos everybody should have the chance, to get a listen to it. This is in fact a real argument to say: "Okay, I listen to it and if I don´t like it, i will not buy it."

But now, after "Omen" was uploaded into myspace there were high-quality rips of that track, not the myspace track itself, but it was ripped with a tool, that rips it´s original quality source. So we have a close to the origianl version of that tune.

Here the problem is, who is responsible for that OR who is guilty for that "accident" ? It is a kind of leak the band has done, but it was not in sense of uploading a hight quality version. So the user of the tool is guilty.
But who expects such a good quality of a myspace-rip ?

What about the "Omen" video - I don´t understand why noone stops that high quality one, cos we all will get this via 2-cd album soon. So it´s against the rules IMO. I think Liam & Co. are not really happy about this.

3] Hard To Find Tracks To Share or not :

If someone asks for actually Fire [Burning Version] I think it´s not hard to get this track. So there´s no reason to share it here. Internet-Shops and bidding options makes it easy to get your hands on it. Okay, sometimes this could be more expensive for some reason, but nothing is impossible.

Tracks like "Get Up Get Off" [Alternate Mix] - it was only available via Itunes and isn´t available anymore, as far as I can remember. Quite not sure, I don´t have Itunes. This could be shared or not ? Some would say Yes, some would say NO .

Same here with FLINT-CD Device No.1 - it´s quite impossible to get one original CD.

Maybe it will be released in some years .... I still hope it via "Take Me To The Hospital"-label.

I just wanna say: Sometimes it is hard to say is it against our rules or not.... We should do a list of it.

Else: Keep Respect to the prodigy and buy their stuff.

I have downloaded music in the past and I still do it.
At one point I decided to be honest to bands/artists that I really like, or better say adore or admire.
I have resigned from saying that this makes You better/worse fan because You're fan in Your heart, not here on forum showing off collection or something like that.
But I have defined a level of great fan for myself and at that point I want to be honest - not really for band, because they will never know about it, but for myself.
That's why I'm not saying that downloading makes someone worse fan, I still like many more bands and I can't afford their cds yet.
But I first reply (and all others) were like that:
I download + I pay later = I am ok
but the truth is this:
I download illegal copy + later I get legal copy = I have thieft but I later paid for that
which still may be acceptable in some cases, but is not good overall (which everyone here is claiming)
this is simply justifying your theift which is caused just by impatience - it's very low reason for me

and a short note for maxreal, basically same meaning but its easier to use polish language and out forum is currently down:

one of other bands which i really respect are Chemical Brothers
i got most of their stuff but not all, and i still haven bought new compilation and still havent heard older electronic battle weapons and i am still determinated to buy not to download

Downloading or not seems pretty inconsequential to me.. what truly matters in my opinion is if one ends up buing the record in the end.
