<  PRODIGY QUESTIONS & OPINIONS  ~  Did Liam get Warrior's Dance wrong?

I specifically remember listening to an early leaked version of this track, and as soon as the female sample kicked in I thought 'this can't be Prodigy' and assumed it was a fake.

I listened for about 2 minutes and while it sounded a decent track, it seemed distinctly 'un-Prodigy-like' and I killed it.

There was no way Liam would have produced that.

And then when the album came out to my utter surprise that early leaked version pretty much was the final version.

The problem I have with this track is while it is very much trying to get the old skool vibe going, because music has moved well beyond that, the Prodigy doing so in particular, it seems thoroughly odd and completely out of place with that sample in there.

When I say we've moved beyond old skool, this is not to say hard breakbeat dance has no place - hell no, that's pretty much the majority of the album and it's brilliant for it, but it's a modern version of it.

Tracks like Stand Up, Thunder, and Take Me to the Hospital are sophisticated and evolved versions of old skool - they keep the principle but bring it into 2009.

Warrior's Dance doesn't fit because it seems too close to being an actual track from 1991.

This isn't to state it's not a good track - I actually like it a fair bit, but I find it a bit out of place and the sample (which perhaps seems to cheapen the track a bit) is a major reason for that.

Thoughts?

that's the point of the track. it was created to celebrate the 20th anniversary of acid house...

...as for the sample and the track it self: it's the best one on the entire album!

It sounds nothing like anything from Experience, I mean, the vocals are the only thing that you might associate with the 90s. Probably the second best track on the album because of the horns sample.

My criteria for a good song is :
1) can you dance to it?
2) does it blow your fucking head off?

Yes on both counts. WD is a storming immense song that I have to play at the loudest possible volume otherwise my stereo would never forgive me. Stop over analysing it and just play loud!

warriors dance is far from a track that blows your head off, its more melodic, its not a fierce track at all and probably my least favourite track as it is a bit cheesy, saying that the saxophone with echo beginning is fucking epic, just a shame it goes into this tune,, the only weak link of the album although commercially it will be succesfull, just a bit obvious for me and a bit soulless..

Liam spent 5 years re-writing and over analysing every note, beat, and vocal on the album.

I think we're allowed to do the same ;)

You seriously don't hear any resemblance with Music Reach? Or Your Love?

This is not a bad thing, but the point of this album was that it DOES hark back to this era - so to say a tune of that nature on the disk doesn't sound like what it's supposed to actually sound like suggests a contradiction in terms :)

I purposely didn't listen to any of the live versions of this track as I wanted the album to be a surprise. Isn't it just that you're all a bit bored of the track after having listened to it for 12 months??

Its a very good track. But nowhere near classics like SMBU and most of the tracks on Jilted
