lol damn, couldn't he have left it on the doorstep?

Bought Windows 7 and I can't install it because microsoft designed XP to make all the folders 'read-only' and the installation fails because it can't write to the folders in XP. Fuck you Microsoft.

i think that you have to instal over XP, not to upgrade it. in this case have to format the main partion of the PC (with OS on it)

I purchased a digital download for cheap thru school so I think I'm fucked unless you know how to remove the read-only attribute from folders. I tried using the dos way from the MS support site but I just keep getting an error about parameters. I made a new folder with nothing in it and it's read-only. As soon as the install package unpacks and start it errors and says it can't install because the folders are all read-only and cannot write any files to my hardrive.

Good thing I'm buying a Mac in January I guess.

The iso worked like a charm. Installed Windows 7 Ultimate no thanks to Microsoft.

Upgrading windows from a previous version has been a gamble since the dawn of days. Always do a clean install. Everything you installed and changed since you installed XP is a potential problem when trying to upgrade.
