I just noticed on DJ Shadow's official website has a ton of stuff concerning his time at UNKLE. His store has plenty of merchandise from his UNKLE days including a Deluxe edition of Psyence Fiction only available on his store.

If you look at the merchandise there is a heavy emphasis on UNKLE, he even has a Deluxe UNKLE Bundle that comes with a t-shirt, deluxe psyence fiction plus a "handmade" CD with 2 UNKLE live shows he performed.

I love this quote: "It's been years since Shadow has revisited the UNKLE project to this degree, and we're proud to be a part of the album's continuing legacy."

Overall, my feeling Shadow wants back with UNKLE. "The Outsider" was a big failure. I think he wants his glory days with James Lavelle, and make another Psyence Fiction.

it would have been great, 'psyence fiction' is in my top5 albums ever (along with 'endtroducing', 'tfotl', NIN's 'the downward spiral' and massive atack 'mezzanine').

Lavelle has gone in a different direction since DJ Shadow left. I like Psynce Fiction but I like more Never Never Land and War Stories. Not to sure what Shadow is going to do now in UNKLE except samples and samples. UNKLE looks now like a rock band, a live rock band and they sound great that way.

So let me get this straight....

You think Shadow wants to re-join UNKLE because he is selling some TShirts and an album?

Thats crazy! He would never ever re-join UNKLE as they are so far removed from what UNKLE was back in 98, James is now using loads of different vocalists and collaborators like are leaning towards the live/rock route

Shadows last album was Hyphy, totally different styles

This is a case of Shadow cashing in and nothing more

James lavelle was tagging along DJ Shadows success so if u think about it "psyence fiction" is and was a DJ Shadow album and after DJ Shadow realized this he decided to leave UNKLE and become DJ Shadow! thats all! notice when this happened the name UNKLE disappeared only to be found on DJ Shadows site as discography duh

Why out of the blue, you see tons of shit from his UNKLE days? to make a dollar? Shit, he already made good cash on his own including his production on DJ Hero. It just seems odd that out of the blue, you see UNKLE t-shirts, an exclusive deluxe version of Psyence Fiction on his website, tons of "Vault" releases from 1998-2000 that include UNKLE material and so on.

What I find strange is that he is able to release clothing with the "MoWax" label on it. Additionally, I thought Universal had all the rights to MoWax material including Psyence Fiction and all the singles +b-sides. James Lavelle has said that he wanted to re-release MoWax albums but he cant because Universal has all the rights, then how the fuck did Shadow get access to this stuff? I am sure he is making some cash while James is not getting anything out of it.

I know UNKLE have taken a new direction, but the fact is that James is solo again after Richard File left. James can say fuck it and go back to work with Shadow. I think Shadow knows Hyphy is not going anywhere and wants back the "Psyence Fiction" sound. If you look closely his last stuff sounds more like Psyence Fiction than anything else, like the track he made for Uncharted - the game , listen here:

http://blog.us.playstation.com/2007/11/ ... o-megamix/.

I do think he wants to make another Psyence Fiction...

I think they main reason why Shadow left UNKLE was because of the "stress" created by working with so many people (Thom Yorke, Richard Ashcroft, and so on). He and Lavelle spent a lot of time together (3 years) making Psyence Fiction and they got fed up with each other. To make matters worse, Psyence Fiction was considered a failure (based on sales). Shadow said "fuck it, this is not worth my time" and quit UNKLE. I think Shadow wanted to move away from what James is still doing which is working with tons of people to make albums (although his last album has tons of guests, so who the fuck knows).

According to UNKLE's Facebook:

Lavelle’s striking remixes were a vital cog in Mo’ Wax’s programme. In 1996, he went one step farther and, together with old school pal Tim Goldsworthy and Kudo from Japanese Hip-Hop outfit Major Force, formed UNKLE. UNKLE was not the name of a band – it was the label Lavelle intended to use for his own musical ventures, recorded with anyone who might happen to be around. In the meantime, A&M Records had offered Mo’ Wax an irresistible licensing deal that also covered UNKLE. A first attempt at recording a debut album in Los Angeles went awry. Kudo and Goldsworthy jumped ship – the latter eventually to resurface as the co-founder of DFA Records in New York.

Lavelle turned to DJ Shadow, another Mo’ Wax artist, for help. The UNKLE debut Psyence Fiction with contributions from Radiohead’s Thom Yorke, Metallica’s Jason Newstead. The Verve’s Richard Ashcroft and Talk Talk’s Mike Hollis, appeared, at long last, in summer 1998. The album was an unqualified success, reaching number 4 in the British album charts.

Agreed Mexican Fan im not saying its not weird, with using the MoWax logo being most weird as i also thought Universal bought that up but then I do remember GU using the MoWax logo on something by Unkle once.

I picked up the 4-Track Era boxset whilst in Japan a few months ago and was reminded on how fucking talented Shadow is and no doubt Id love to see him hook up with UNKLE on at least one production but I think all that time has passed and JL's sound has changed even more, with him being influenced by Progressive producers like Dubfire/Fergie on one side and then the rock side

That album might have been a commercial failure, but I still think it's a great album. Doesn't feel like an album tho - more like a compilation, and I guess that's the problem with it. Nevertheless...

haha, it seems that mexicanfan could have been right. in this interview (done 2 days ago) dj shadow says that he met lavelle last year on wireless festival for first time in 4 years and that now they are both ready to collaborate. he also says that it wouldnt be possible 4 or 8 years ago and he has big respect for lavelle for keeping UNKLE alive and that its 'possible' that they will work together (but probably not on next shadow album, he said that there are no guests so far)

Judging by his latest tracks, his new albums is going to be "da bomb". A continuation of his work with UNKLE could really help them get out of the gutter cause UNKLE's new album is an amazing piece of shit.
