Ahhh, I've been looking to talk about something to pass the time waiting for Prodigy news. I thought it would be interesting to talk about something that probably noone ever thinks about.
As we all know some tracks on the album are mixed together, but will they come back? I do hope so. For one they keep the atmophere and take it to a new level (The Narcotic Suite), or just as a variation or extra, like the live fills (Speedway, Funky Shit). Lets lay down the facts:
EXPERIENCE has 6 transitions, though some are really useless.
3. Wind it Up - When the next track starts in still has a tiny bit of Wind it Up, so yeah. Kind of. Just a random cut in between the tracks it seems.
4. Your Love - Smooth but subtle transition to Hyperspeed.
7. Out of Space. Again, the next tracks starts with a tiny part of Out of Space.
8. EITP. AGAIN, Weather Experience starts with a small part of EITP.
10. Fire. It's getting boring. Again, Ruff in the Jungle begins with a short scream from Fire.
11. Ruff in the Jungle. If you listen closely you can hear 'the jungle sounds' until the first few seconds of Death of the Prodigy Dancer.
My conclusion with Experience: Liam cuts off these tracks to prevent people from copying them in the wrong order I guess. There is no real logical explanation to these parts in between tracks otherwise.
MUSIC FOR THE JILTED GENERATION had only 3 transitions:
6. Speedway. Yeah! That's better! After Speedway there's some sorth of trippy fill, that smoothly starts of The Heat.
11 Narcotic Suite - 3 Kilos. The transitions are so good you don't even notice it. Liam really tried to make one track out of three, and succeeded.
12 NS - Skylined. Like I said, perfect. You don't notice it unless you check your display.
My conclusion with MftJG: Less transitions, but much higher in quality than Experience. They really add something to the tracks and how they follow eachother up actually. Better than with Experience because they are logical and natural.
FAT OF THE LAND has 4 transitions:
4. Funky Shit. Another sort of fill that suddenly 'gets stuck' only to start the machine-like Serial Thrilla. This is a really good flow from track to track. It ends Funky Shit very good and sets the mood for Serial Thrilla perfectly.
5. Serial Thrilla. After this track, it gets 'stuck' again, and after that, it stops and you get to hang back a bit with the softer intro from Mindfields. Smooth outtro for Serial Trilla.
6 Mindfields. Another weird cut, when Narayan begins you can hear a hint of Mindfields. This is again really unlogical.
7. Narayan. Most well known Prodigy transition if I had to make a guess. The track halfway takes another turn and gets these crazy sweepy drums, then you can hear in the distance some Firestarter 'sounds'. Then, it stops and Firestarter kicks in. Woa, really REALLY well build up to this climax. Too bad we don't have more of that.
Conclusion: More transitions that make sense, and they add something to the tracks and how they flow but don't keep you from hearing each track individually. Well mixed and well thought off. Again, like MftJG, make sense.
ALWAYS OUTNUMBERED NEVER OUTGUNNED has... NOTHING.
Conclusion: Well, there's no reason in mixing these tracks I guess because they don't have a common feel. All the previous albums have this same sound all throughout the album. AONO misses that a bit.
Liam could've taken some time to get more of a flow throughout the album. Most tracks don't really make sense, like from YWBUMW to The Way It Is.... I wish the mixing was made a bit more naturally; this just seems a bit forced and unlogical to me. I would've loved a wicked dark flow from Hotride to Wake Up Call, or especially something creative with Medusa's Path, which is the only track that comes close to being a 'journey track'. Missed opportunities in my humble opinion.
What do you people thing will happen on the new album, as AONO doesn't have any flow or track-to-track mixing? I honestly hope we get some 'bonusses'. If Liam is confident with the new album and he takes his time to perfect the album, I assume he puts in some extras.
Spill your thoughts, we don't have anything to do now, have we.
And sorry for the long topic. I hope it was interesting enough.
