Surely it makes no difference when the original source was a crappy tape anyway? Id be more than happy with just mp3's

Crappy tapes aren't lossy : )

I dont mean to be a kill-joy and I too want the two tapes ripped, but surely putting the recordings out to public domain will make them less valuable, owning something Prodigy that very few people have owned or listend too surely increases value????

just a tip to the seller. good luck!

Haha, I wasn't going to say, but yes, I'd already thought of that... I was going to speak to the winner of each tape and explain that I was going to upload recordings of the tapes to fansites, and if they were ok with that or not... So that's what I'll be doing... If the winners of the tapes don't want me to upload them, then I won't.

Lol , first you're stating that you're going to rip it and upload it ... and then you're saying that maybe you don't. :?:

Wether or not you're going to upload the stuff is entirely up to you 8-) , but wouldn't it have been smarter to think about that before you stated that you were going to upload it ?

I can imagine that this is reason enough for some people to start bashing ...

anyway ,as I said, no matter what you decide to do .... it's all up to you and everybody should respect your decision.

think thats a fair deal to be honest mate, i just remember those original demo tapes going down in value after clips were released by a fan, then on the Prodigy website.

I dont have the Minefields tape so will be bidding on that for sure!

Lol, I'm not really bothered if I get" bashed" or whatever to be honest... If people will get upset enough to start bashing, they can just bid on the tapes.!

Not in most fans / collectors eyes. Having the actual item is better than a copy mp3. The value of an mp3 in minimal but owning the actual master copy / tape/ item is much more valuable.

Real fans would love a copy of the tracks to hear and play when they wanted, but would also love more the item itself.

Agree with that. As far as I know, 'Piehands' is the only person I've ever heard say they actually have the 'Minefields' promo tape. I'm pretty sure these promo tapes were never sent out by XL Recordings. Only John Carter (Monkey Mafia) has a 12" of it which he got for doing the remix. That alone will make it valuable. I can't imagine a true collector would be less interested in it if the audio was ripped from it and uploaded.

It's up to 'Piehands' and the eventual winner of the auction if they want to share but I hope they do. Either way, it would be good to know if the 'Headrock Beats Mix' is in any way different from the 'Headrock Dub' (it may just be the same track with a different name).

Not quite sure what you mean here. I agree all fans would 'love a listen', so would I, but the item would surely be more valuable if it wasnt in public domain?

A collector doesn't want an mp3, they want the extremely rare, official XL Recordings Promo. Everyone has heard 'No Souvenirs (UNKLE Remix)' but if an official promo of it turned up the real collectors (the ones who spend the money buying up promos, Liam's old Keyboards, etc) would pay big money for it.

Btw, until you sell it, YOU are the owner of the tape.
So it's up to YOU if you want to share it and everything, not the one who actually buys it.

And after all you can share it with the forum after some time, not now before the auction is over.

Imagine if DENOX wouldn't share the rare FLINT tracks that dont exist on any other promo cd, or many other rarities that showed up on the forum all these years (liam's demo tape and many more).

anyways, do whatever you want, it's your tape anyway.

i would share it with everyone in here, like i did with all the live captures i did all these years. i could keep them all for myself after all, or only trade it with others for something else.

agree with most of whats been said...it is your tape and if you wish to share it...hope you do...that it is your choice

a real collector will want the physical tape itself no matter how many rips of it are out there...its like a rare painting...plenty of people may have seen it but it is still very valuable

if you decide to rip it then i think a lot of us would appreciate flac or wav...i know a cassette tape is not the best audio source but....

@ piehands check pm

Ok to be honest I do see both sides, like I said I'd like to hear it as much as the next person, and for that privallage and being a collector I will be bidding, in particular for the Minefields tape as it is one that I havent got, and doubt will get the chance to buy again. Although I may bid on the Leeroy one although I do have one but debating wether to do an exchange for something else.

Will be interesting to see the price of the Minefields tape thats for sure.
