Didn't we all learned the same lesson with Prodigy? Big Beat and the 90's were a very long time ago.
Seriously, Fat of the Land, Exit Planet Dust, Dig Your Own Hole, Better living through Chemistry.... those albums will never return.
You shouldn't expect the new album to sound like your favourite album, you should expect it replace as your new favourite album.
I'm sure this album will rock hard!

because they like to move forward (and I love those albums but I wouldn't like them to be recycled over and over by them)

you know, this is what i don't get.
take unkle for example. everbodys like, yeah they can't make another "psyence fiction" album. now lavelle comes up with crap like "where did the night fall". not exactly what i call 'movin on'.
or the chemical bros. IMO they produce the same psy-tech 4/4 record over and over again for the last ten years. is that what you call 'movin on'?
the prodigy moved on but they still rock and liam still produces fat beats.

Exactly. Prodigy still has phat beats, awesome synth sounds, energy, and it's not so far removed from their 90's material, yet it still sounds fresh. With The Chems and their modern stuff sounding all far out, I just think it doesn't have to be this way. I think that with a lot of modern dance music. Another dance album with decent beats I like from recent times is Hyper - We Control. It shows it can still be done this way, but many choose not to...

you know, the thing about electronic based records from around the nineties onwards they're almost timeless you know?
But how do you move onwards with electronic records and still sound fresh? It's a difficult task. I think you need to keep your identity but at the same time create those fresh sounds. It's all well and good people saying it's not moving forward or it doesn't sound fresh, I could sit here and say well you do better? and you might say well that's a silly point because these guys clearly have the talent to do these things and I want them to do it.
the chems could move away from this psy-tech stuff but the minute they do that people will say they sound like these people or they're ripping of these people. It's a bit of a catch 22 isn't it?

I can't agree with the part about the chem. bros. Just re-listen a masterpiece like 'Come With Us' and compare it to 'Push the Button' or 'WATN'. You can't say it's the same thing all over again. Sure, all 3 albums have the chemical flavour we all love, but those albums are 3 totally different directions.

new track sounds ok.
i actually love We Are The Night and is in my top 3 Chem albums.
i think the main thing different between the mid-90s stuff and today music is the mastering and production.
albums like Dig Your Own Hole, Fat of the Land, Second Toughest In The Infants from mid-90's had a more raw and natural sound, but still open enough to hear all the details. where now, everything sounds digital and compressed and you lose a lot of the details in a track. sometimes i feel music is getting way to clean and smooth. dirty it up a bit.
part of it, i think is the whole digital download age.
the quality is just not the same unless you can get a wav or flacc.
but mp3s seems to lose the subtle f/x's and atmosphere of the track.

I think thats the thing about electronic music. Acts break through by being innovative, not so much the case in other music genres. So of course the 90's will not return.
However, upon hearing this new track I can't understand why them brothers dont just listen to DYOH on some good headphones again and get a picture of what a true Chemical album should be like.
