There's the common misconception.. The Mayans have never said that the world will end. That's just hollywood and media's bullcrap.

They made calenders of big cycles, like how long our solar system takes get around the galaxy center (26.000 years). In 2012 we're coming at the end of that cycle. And this calendar was the last they made before they disappeared.

What happens is that our solar system is passing through the galactic equator in 2012, and we will then be at a direct line with several other solar systems, just as planets get on a line sometimes. So it's a rare cosmologic event too

How that affects us and our planet, nobody knows....but we'll live to see it atleast

It isn't so much the world is gong to end, but only that it will change drastically somehow i.e. the world as we know it will be different. I don't think they were talking about the physicality of the earth. I'm not sure what I believe, but I find it hard to accept that a massive change can effect the entire earth. I just can't see it happening.

true, i just find it extremely odd that all these famous ppl have been dying left and right lately. and that volcano in iceland that erupted a while back, its being called a supervolcano, and the only other supervolcano that i know of is Yellowstone. plus this crazy weather happening lately; 30 degress one day, and the next 97.

i remember when i used to think that the world wouldnt end, but instead that something unique like an astronomical event that someone had mentioned, but am too lazy to quote it (sorry ); i would think, that not the end of it, but the beginning of a new era (im thinking flying cars, but too much of an expectation)

I am in 2 minds about all this sort of thing. I know there have been tons of doomsday predictions since forever. Anyone remember Y2K?!

Anyway's I'm pretty much clued up that 21-12-2012 is the day the Maya Calender runs out. But a rare event will happen on that day too. The sun will move to a place in the sky, and hold still for a while hence it will be solstice day. But apparently cause of this it will sit precisely between the Milky Way and the Galactic Equinox. Which means it will in the centre of the Galaxy according to some Astronomers.
I would put that down in your calenders cause its a very rare sight.
So there is avid speculation about that according to them doomsdays out there, that something will happen...

There is also the solar cycle of the sun I have read about which is happening between 2012-2014 but there isnt any proof that anything bad will happen as this happens every 11 YEARS !
By this I mean Solar Flares...

They say planet X or some comet will wipe us out. Though NASA has a open calender or something of all the asteroids that are out there and none are predicted to be anywhere as big as the one that killed the Dinosaurs. Also Planet X would be seen quite clearly from Earth.

They say that there will be pole shifts. But again there isnt any proof that it has hurt us before. And it probably wont happen anytime soon.

Anyways they are just a few things that I have previously read about. Weather they are anything to go by beats me. But the more I look online about 2012 the more theories about the end to us are being put forward. Some slightly believable some not so slightly.
If anything I will believe that there will be a Solar Flare or something to do with the sun that has some kinda of affect on us, because there is PROOF it has had a affect on us in previous times.
