not bad mate, overall i think you have some good ideas. but i think it sounds like you need to spend a little more time with each track and progressing it further. for example in frequency, its got a nice dirty synth toward the middle but it doesent really build into what i thought it would.

it sounds alot like your trying to mix dubstep with breakbeat & dnb, along with the odd bit of IDM or glitch or whatever its called these days (aphex twin stuff). the fusion of sound tends to work in places, like the track untitled is a fairly good example of this. the beat is pretty good but that 8bit sounding synth is a bit flat. but i like the idea of the track!

it sounds like im knocking u here mate but im really not. i just think you could perhaps take two good tracks and mould them into one really good track.

other is pretty wicked in places too. this does remind me alot of a aphex twin track that hasnt been slashed to pieces. you can understand it a bit more haha.

Hey tomlad, thankyou for the critical comments.

I totally understand what you mean with the tracks, that it doesn't build up enough into a complete different listening expereince...and i definatly see what you mean about me trying to do dubstep, breakbeat, glitch all in one...thats my problem

I go off on one and tend to loose my original idea...or just get bored and try to make it change as much as possible!

Hopefully as soon as i get myself work i can get another mac..my first mac got water damage in the first week..and i didin't even do the damage myself...damn

Anyway

Thankyou for the commments!!!

ok mate ive had a listen, and i quite like it. but it does sound unfinished mate. very demo like, quite linear and it does sound like you havent spent a great deal of time with it. but i like some of the sounds youve used, although i found the structure to be a little odd, new sounds coming in right at the end and then the track finishes kinda adds to the demo vibe. not to say the production is bad, as it sounds ok to me.

but like i say, take more time with a track and try and build it over days, weeks or even months. however long it takes. dont try and thrash it out over a few hours. i used to do that and it got me nowhere. these days i can take literally months fine tuning a track and testing it out live and such.

in alot of your tracks youve got the bones. your just missing some of the meat! but i dont want to sound like im simon cowell or that im shredding your tracks. im deffo not trying to mate, but i just think potential is there for bigger things!

p.s. ive started following you on soundcloud too. im Supersonic Army.

I definatly agree with this quote above..i'm gonna start taking more time with my pieces, i do try and thrash through stuff and the result can be not as expected..i will take your advice to the next level once my mac arrives...by tuesday!

I must admit..i do have to work on some tracks for my dj set on the 18th of june, should i produce new work exclusively to play out or work on demo's that could potentially be played out too?

thankyou in advance my freind..i love some of the stuff you've got up on your page..

another question

how do you play your tracks out live..with albeton?

when i was about 16/17, i would start a track, mess around for 2 or 3 hours or whatever and then think it was finished. those tracks now are just total nonsense. i had to learn to pace myself and build a track over as long a time period as it takes.

the hardest part for me has been finishing a track and then looking back on it in 6 months or 12 months and being happy with the production quality. the upside of writing electronic music is your always learning and improving. the downside is always wanting to tinker with old tracks and never letting them be!

i appreciate the comments about my tracks too matey! i love playing them live as they sound so much better on a proper good system. and you totally get an idea of what sounds right and what doesent live. looking at peoples reactions and such.

but my live show is pretty difficult. i have two laptops both running reason at the same time. i have 3 midi controllers and theyre all mapped to various beats and samples within the tracks. i leave in most of the beats and main synths and play samples and the simple stuff over the top. i trigger alot of stuff too using mapped samplers. i also have a midi thats used for extra live bits, like vocal samples, kicks, snares, crashes, strings and stuff to use over the top of what im already doing.

i do a totally live jam with breaks too that i have looped on the midi keyboard along with a few effects that i tweak live. i.e. filters and delays. its a bit like what liam used to do with some stuff back in the 90's. taking a sampled beat and messing with it live. but, like liam, i dont try and get over confident onstage and play the important synths and stuff live. coz i will no doubt mess it up! especially in the dark! haha
