I've done a fair bit of research, and i know nintendo are pumping out versions of the ds every 5 months or so but this is more like a DS2.

The reason its currently called the 3DS is because it will incoperate 3D visuals without the need for glasses, this can be done in a number of ways, dont expect the pixels to fly out of the screen though its not like that, more like adding depth to the ds like looking into a box.

I'm pretty sure this has been confirmed by Nintendo and it will be shown at this years E3 event as well as being playable.

As for the specs, its not just a DS with 3D, no, a number of reliable sources have said Nintendo has given The Pokemon Company (Game Freaks) a Developer kit of this new model, it has high powered graphics (Game Cube) and uses a graphics engine by Nvidia, also before 3DS was released i seen on a games site i usually visit that a couple 5th generation Pokemon were shown on a Japanese magazine so it all rather ties in together.

Features are to be roughly like this:

Dual Screen (3D)

Motion Tracking (Like Project Natal, which will probably be used on 3DS for tracking your head)

Increased battery life and wireless range.

DS,DSi Backwards compatibility.

Gamecube/Wii graphics power. (For those who never owned these its like ps2, first xbox graphics)

Screen is smaller than DSi XL but larger than DSi

Screen is made by Sharp who currently sell a number of 3D Mobile phones.

Built-in accelerometer (like the iPhone/iPhone touch)

2 Built In Cameras (front and back)

First HD Gaming from Nintendo (this at the moment is still a rumor and it is not known whether it is with both screens, somehow i dont think you can make a small portable screen even 720p hd so chances are it will be wii's hd 480p)

its speculated that it should be out by late 2010 early 2011.

Try not to pay close attention to whats actually on the screen, these photo's officially from Nintendo and others are probably of non existent games or games still to be made and are most likely only for graphic representation purposes, on the other hand they might be the real deal.

The pictures are also prototype pictures, so looks may change, but from what i've seen with Nintendo its just the name of the console/handheld that changes, examples: Ultra 64 - Nintendo 64, Dolphin - Gamecube, Revolution - Wii.

I've got a thing for the Nintendo DS although it has many shitty third party games like its big brother Wii it has many awesome games.

i recon if Sony doesn't come out with guns blazing on a PSP2 at this years E3 i will be buying this when it is released.

This leaves me a little puzzled however, if Nintendo are going to announce this at this years E3, if the specs and rumors are true then this thing is going to be as powerful as the Wii, its basically a gamecube with motion sensing and over 10 year old technology for a home console so perhaps a new Nintendo home console will be premiered at this years E3 ?

3D seems to be the future, 3D Movies, 3D Games (PC/PS3 *This summer*) and 3DHDTV (try saying that after a few glasses of wine or even worse Three Dimensional High Definition Television) it looks like 3D is here to stay.

I BET you that Sony and Microsoft will also make a handheld with 3D if this thing will become a success. It's all bullshit and it's all bad for you, and your wallet.

I'm getting me a 3DS when they come out. I believe in March 2011. E3 this June will have more details. I'll be awesome!...

yeah man i'm rather curious about the new handhelds, especially a sony one but at the moment i can't really imagine anything handheld being better than ps2 graphics, and we've already hut that threshold with the psp.

though the psp is really going downhill, so i'd expect a psp2, i'd probably get that too, nothing stopped me having both the ds and psp this time as the games are incredibly different.

as for microsoft, i dunno i think there a bit scared to bring out a handheld, i guess I'd need a big surprise and it would have to be unique as well and not just a psp clone.

i guess we'll need to wait for june, i hope its a live internet show again, i watched that shit all day.

but the 3DS looks awesome to me, nintendo is stupid with their anti piracy as well so you can have fun with emulators and the such with nintendo's stuff.

Finally, the control stick looks controllable. That horrible PSP plastic shit fucking shit ass knob is so fucking horrible, my muscle cringe even thinking about playing a 3D game on that PSP again. The texture of it looks like a waffle iron. Finally they get the fucking point and think about design.

i've read some stories from people in the e3 talking about the stick when having a shot in the booth, they did say it was really smooth unlike the psp's one.

i still feel like these handhelds need two of those sticks though, one for movement and another for camera, d pad for items etc etc.

i'm really looking forward to it myself, i know the graphics aint the best, but there better than ps1 and just a bit worse than psp, but from my experience these things start looking better after a couple years, like the wii, its using practically ancient tech compared to its rivals but i played mario galaxy 2 and it looks near enough hd, you get the picture, i feel developers develop ways of making things look better in their gaming devices as they get to know them better, compare gta 3 to gta san andreas, same console but a huge difference thanks to time

so its definatly something i'm going to invest in myself, i'm instantly hooked and this isn't even because of 3d, how could it be ? i've not even seen the real 3d effect yet.

the wii had a good collection of games at the e3 too, donkey kong country and zelda and even a kirby game and even a new metriod game, nintendo won this years e3 easily i thought, everyone else is too bothered about becoming like the wii (did you see kinects launch titles ?! ) and sony's sports with move are just the same as wii sports resort, archery, ping pong, all that shit just in hd and with atleast half a second of lag between moving the controller or your hand with whats actually happening in game, wii doesn't have that problem anymore, i like my hd graphics but i've already got resort, though nintendo was really backing into the Core players, we were forgotten for a few years but there back !

someone was sneaky and recorded some MGS 3D gameplay. I guess some of the 3D effect is lost from the recording and needs to be seen by the naked eye. But it still looks awesome and I'm guessing this game is more of an update than a port of the PS2 game. Some of the pix look like PW Big Boss as opposed to MGS3 Naked Snake. I don't remember this scene with a helicopter under the bridge so I guess it's new stuff added in...

Now I really know I will be getting a 3DS, I hope Peace Walker makes it over to it someday. There's a bunch of games from that list that I'm interested in.

i'm quite excited about it. gamelist is incredible, it has nice hardware capabilities, if the price won't be too high i'm instantly buying it.
