I guess it´s more easy to play snare drums and hi-hats live WITH a doublebass to the "out of space" intro than playin ONLY the snares and hi´s to an intro that also contains a sampled double-bassdrum, cos the main problem would be the sync. Liam has to do the sync and this just means to start the tune at the correct time while leo playin the intro drums. The main neccessary thing for leo is to get the correct speed of the track. But this could be done by a clock pulse sound into his headphone. It´s just my opinion.  It's your speculation! And a very good one too. I go along with it |

yeah that is a good opinion Flachcracker, when i think about it maybe that low bassline liam plays from his virus ti before the drums kick in is actually to keep leo in sync, it makes sense, would love to ask liam all these questions about their live performance, its something of another world, though its a shame that we can only guess as to what he does, whatever it is though its amazing.

Sounds about right 'Flashcracker', Leo would definitely have a click/metronome being fed into his earpiece. He probably has the bass of the live drums mixed quite low n only lets the high end splash from the drum come through to give the live sound more energy. Leo would have to play incredibly tightly to keep the sound from being messy with the bass of the kick of the electronic drums as well as the live kick that he plays.

Also the question was about the Intro drums of OOS, not of other tracks. A good example for added drums was the track WARNING. A lot of people missed these added drum on the album vesrion, along with the vocals. Nice discussion here! 
IMO both is true - drums from Liam AND Leo! But Leo's live drumming makes the sound just better than only Liam's drums.. Because of warning and Out of space called here, I uploaded OOS Live @ Reading Festival 2009 and Warning in a version WITH lyrics and as bonus Commanche Live @ Rock Am Ring Festival 2009 & a 30 minutes mix from me.
