At one point Scott had referred to the then-untitled prequel as the first in a pair of films, both of which would focus on the character that became the "Space Jockey" corpse seen in Alien. The first prequel would feature the Space Jockey and how it and its ship came into contact with the aliens. The second prequel would "go to where [the Space Jockey] came from", according to Scott. How much of this storyline will factor into the script remains to be seen.

Quote:
Noomi Rapace (The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo) has a role in the film, as scientist Elizabeth Shaw. Meanwhile, both Charlize Theron and Angelina Jolie are reportedly in the running to play the other female lead, Vickers. Scott has also voiced an interest in Michael Fassbender (Inglourious Basterds) for the role of the ship's android crew member

so far it seems they will follow up on half of the story from the leaked script.

Yeah, I wasn't expecting Alien in HD to be something special, but it is. The quality I saw at your place was out of the roof, and I'm sure that, once I get a bluray player, I will probably see the movies another 50+ times.

I can't wait to watch the other three movies with the commentary, it gives a really great point of view on the movies... which probably makes it even better. Too bad Ridley Scott made so much hints towards Alien 5. I really hope Prometheus brings something new to the Alien storyline. I think we deserve this as fans of the franchise.

Michael Fassbender to Star Opposite Noomi Rapace in Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus'
26 January 2011

Michael Fassbender will star opposite Noomi Rapace in Prometheus, Fox's sci-fi project that was once an Alien prequel.

Ridley Scott is directing the movie, which just shifted release dates, moving from a March 2012 berth to a high-profile summer release of June 8, 2012.

Much of the story line is shrouded by secrecy, but Scott said the movie will have "Alien DNA." Fassbender is playing an android.

Fassbender, repped by CAA, was one of the breakouts from Inglourious Basterds, booking several high-profile roles off that film, including that of Magneto in Fox's X-Men: First Class.

He was offered the Prometheus role last year (when it was still the Alien prequel), with talks on and off throughout the fall. Fassbender also flirted with Universal's Snow White and the Huntsman, but now that he has booked Prometheus, that dance is over.

Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus' Gets High-Profile Summer Release Date
26 January 2011

Twentieth Century Fox originally planned to release the high-profile sci-fi in spring 2012.

Twentieth Century Fox has decided to give Ridley Scott’s Prometheus a high-profile summer release, moving the tentpole from March 9, 2012 to June 8, 2012.

Prometheus essentially switches places with Disney’s live-action pic John Carter of Mars, which recently moved onto the March 9 date after Disney pushed Tim Burton’s 3D stop-motion feature Frankenweenie back to Oct. 5. Frankenweenie had staked out the March 9 date well before Prometheus came along.

Prometheus—which has morphed from being an Aliens prequel to original sci-fi tentpole—stars Noomi Rapace, star of The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo.

Damon Lindelof is working together with Scott on the new script, which was originally written by Jon Spaihts and based on an idea by Scott.

Exclusive: Prometheus Plot Reveal - Aliens Are In It
27 January 2011

It turns out that Ridley Scott's recent comments that Prometheus would be a departure from the Aliens series are somewhat misleading.

An exclusive source has told us that not only are HR Giger's classic aliens in it, but that they're integral to the plot.

Mere hours after the announcement that Michael Fassbender is locked in to play an android with rumoured links to Aliens' Bishop series, our insider sources have revealed that he's not the only one with strong links to the series' past.

"They’ve built the ‘space jockey’ cockpit at Pinewood as seen in the original Alien film, so it definitely takes place in the same world as Alien", they told us.

"Despite that press release that seemed to indicate there were no aliens in the movie, the familiar HR Giger-style aliens do appear. Big ones apparently."

And as for Scott's comments noting that "keen fans will recognise strands of Alien's DNA"?

It turns out there was the slightest hint of misdirection - apparently the actual DNA of the xenomorphs is integral to the plot - and will see the cast jet off to the alien homeworld itself.

"Part of the film will be shot in Morocco. I’ve heard that some sort of archaeological dig where they discover alien DNA takes place there and that DNA gives them the coordinates for an alien world. I’ve also heard Morocco is being used for alien planet landscapes so I’m not sure if it’s an archaeological dig on another planet," they revealed.

It gets weirder too, with Damon Lindelof's script set to crank up the sci-fi angle to maximum effect.

"The main spaceship in the film will be piloted by an enormous head which I assume will be CGI. Yep, sounds weird but I assume some of the technology will be sort of biomechanical."

I wish I could take a one year sleep. I'm exited for this, actually. But still pissed off for the unclear manner in which the news was told.

Could Ridley Scott’s Prometheus really still be an Alien prequel in all but name?

Published on Jan 28, 2011

Yesterday, we brought you the news that Prometheus, the film that the planned prequel to Alien migrated into, has been put back until June of 2012, and that Michael Fassbender is the latest name linked with the film.

Sky has now revealed, however, that there may too be more familiar characters in the film: the aliens of the Alien saga itself.

It seems that, while the project is now going under a different name, there's a bit more than the "Alien DNA" to the movie that the official announcement of it had suggested.

Sky cites a source close to the production that says, "They've built the ‘space jockey' cockpit at Pinewood as seen in the original Alien film, so it definitely takes place in the same world as Alien". The source continues, saying that "Despite that press release that seemed to indicate there were no aliens in the movie, the familiar HR Giger-style aliens do appear. Big ones, apparently."

The story goes on to reveal that a chunk of the movie is set to shoot in Morocco, with an archaeological dig involved, and that the "Alien DNA" that has been discussed when describing Prometheus might be a quite literal plot point.

Obviously, none of this has been confirmed, so it's the usual requirement of salt until it is.

Ridley Scott’s Prometheus put back, Michael Fassbender linked

The film that was once the Alien prequel, Prometheus, will be arriving a few months later than originally thought. Plus: new casting news…

Published on Jan 27, 2011

Once upon a time, as you probably know, the project that has now become Prometheus was mooted to be the long-in-gestation prequel to Alien. However, earlier this month, the project migrated into a standalone science fiction film, still to be directed by Ridley Scott.

It was scheduled, at that point, for a release in March 2012, but 20th Century Fox has now confirmed that the movie has been put back to the summer.

That, you have to say, is a bold move. Prometheus has a new release date of June 8th 2012, and that puts in slap bang in the middle of one of the most competitive summer movie seasons on record.

While there's no other movie thus far that is coming out on the same day, Prometheus will be arriving in the same month as the sequel to the Star Trek reboot, horror-thriller Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter and Pixar's Brave. At the end of May, meanwhile, is Battleship and Men In Black 3, with the Spider-Man reboot likely to still be doing business, too.

Meanwhile, on the casting side, the latest addition to the line-up is the excellent Michael Fassbender. According to Heat Vision, he's down to play an android. He'll be starring in the film alongside the already cast Noomi Rapace.

Prometheus as in the greek mythology... http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus ... my guess... a movie about stealing technology from alien civilizations... mirroring Prometheus stealing fire from the Gods...??

Mary Shelley's Frankenstein had a second title... The Modern Prometheus.... that also sprang to thought.

To quote myself first:

Btw, we never seen Alien evolved from Space Jockey. We know that PredoAliens are very strong and powerfull, but imagine JockeyAlien! This one must be brutal.

Also, imaginge Alien queen or Alien empress evolved from predator or jockey! huh

(Some parts of story are explained in AVP pc games)

Then this:

Quote:
"Despite that press release that seemed to indicate there were no aliens in the movie, the familiar HR Giger-style aliens do appear. Big ones apparently."

And if HR Giger really working for movie again, then it will look awesome for sure!

in the leaked script the original space jockey ship carried small ant alien eggs.a small face hugger ended up on the ship when they loaded the eggs.that facehugger frenched the spacejockey and so a giant alien queen came out of him.that alien then went to the cargo, ate all the small alien eggs and made then the ones we saw in the movie.after the alien queen laid down in some sort of fetal position and turn into a big mass of that clay substance we saw in the movies..

this is original artwork from pre=production on the first alien.if the aliens are big, then they come from the spacejockeys
