What the fuck are they doing over there? seriously?

The Prodigy are a headline act, they shouldn't be second to anyone unless its a festival but going over there and playing to brain dead Linkin Park fans isnt going to do them any favours

Come back home!

Saly Lake City - 25.02.11

Quote:
It’s been 14 long years since The Prodigy had a hit in the U.S. As quickly as “Firestarter” Keith Flint’s double Mohawk and bull-style nose rings frightened Americans into buying two million copies of the band’s third album, “The Fat of the Land,” the band disappeared from pop culture.

Friday night, at their first-ever Salt Lake City show, the British electro punks were back, with their sights set on conquering a new generation of unsuspecting American teenagers.

Though his hairline has receded some, Flint was still rocking the doublehawk when he took the stage with fellow MC/dancer Maxim. The two traded lines and moves on the cramped stage as mastermind Liam Howlett stood behind a wall of synthesizers and in front of a tower of amplifiers.

The band used “Fat of the Land” hit “Breathe” to kick off the set—maybe “blast off” would be a more apt description, as the bass was so incredibly heavy that it felt like a small explosion. The majority of the set, however, came from the band’s most recent release, 2009’s “Invaders Must Die.”

Flint and Maxim were visceral and vitriolic from start to finish, spewing their lines and taunting the crowd. Both made the most of the clouds of smoke and strobing red lights and stoked the frenzy of their long-time fans pressed up against the front of the stage. Howlett matched the intensity, never allowing the tempo to retreat for more than a few moments.

Unfortunately, the intensity came at the cost of any and all musical nuance. The mix was a muddy mess of bass and growl that made even the most recognizable track, “Firestarter,” sound foreign.

Though the band was serving as the opening act for Linkin Park, there was absolutely no acknowledgement that the crowd was anything other than their own. During the set’s closing and best track, “Smack My Bitch Up,” Maxim demanded that the crowd “get down.” Not get down, as in party, but literally get down on the floor. It was hard to not be impressed by resulting human wave when Maxim demanded that they then “get up.”

The Prodigy may not have quite won over the crowd with its music, but it certainly pummeled the audience into submission—which, in the rock world, is the next best thing.

Seems there have been a few issues with bass overdose as someone else mentioned.

Was there @ Staples last night with the wifey.

Great set of songs. Good energy from the band, Great lighting.
Didn't stay for Linkin Park as we wanted to hear The Prodigy (long time fan from growing up in Ol' Blighty).

What really sucked for me were two things. (Admitedly the wife and I were seated up in the gods - but I've been @ the Staples center many times before - so we're familiar with the sound - it can be great!).

1) Why oh why did every other word have to be F**k this or F****n that. Really let down the show when that's all that's said. :( Ok, you hear profanity on some of the songs, but really it was WAY too much. If the Prodigy were trying to win over a US audience, this did not help - AT ALL!

2) Someone needed to SERIOUSLY shoot the sound manger/mixing desk staff. Bass is good, but we went to hear (and more to the point enjoy!) the music. If I wanted to just hear bass all night and miss all the subtleties and nuances of GREAT Prodigy music, I could have just given a CD to a "homey" from East LA in his street cruiser and stood outside his Honda listening to the trunk lid rattle.

It really was BBBAAADDDD!!! Could not hear any mid or treble, so all in all it was a bust as far as I was concerned. :?

Shame really, but if anyone from the Band reads this, you guys set up your foldback levels how you want, but think about how the crowd has heard your albums and what they expect to hear from you. Pumping the bass (does it really go to 11?) and not setting a good tonal mix does not do you any favors at all!

Still looking forward to more great Prodigy tracks in the future, but last night was not their greatest hour (well 45 mins anyway).

I'll stick to my CD collection.

Yeah both times I saw them in NYC, the sound wasn't that great either.
And it wasn't the venue's fault because I had been to other shows at the same venues and they sounded great.

I'm actually really disappointed in Prodge's sound team both times.
It was mostly a wall of bass with occasional breakthrough of something noticeable in the mid-treble range.

You couldn't even hear the main lead in "Breathe" at all both times once the track kicked in.

You can have immense bass without destroying the rest of the levels.

Best sounding shows that I've been to were both by Meat Beat Manifesto...
now those guys care about their live sound.
It was absolutely perfect... clean, clear, and powerful.
Truly amazing live mix.

Can't say i have ever had any issues with the sound at any of The Prodigy gigs ive been to! Well maybe Glasto 97 was a bit off but that was due to the rain & wind but they still kicked it!

Maybe its due to them being a "support act" and having to use a lot of LP set up! Although i have been informed that Liam only plays through his own set ups!

brixton academy, the sound had has been mind blowing every time i've been. clear crisp and blowing a hole in my chest, all i ask really.... its difficult to replicate perfect sound on every gig, look how many venues they play how much touring they do...there will be times it wont be at its best...
