That's the word on the street at least. Fassbender certainly has exactly the right kind of presence for playing an android so one has the assume it's true.

Quote: On a blog called Alien Prequel News, it is reporting that actors Emun Elliott and Benedict Wong have joined the cast of Ridley Scott-directed sci-fi horror film “Prometheus.”
The British actor Elliot has appeared in several television shows including “Lip Service,” “Inspector George Gently,” “Paradox” and “Feel the Force.” He will be playing a character named Chance.
Elliot’s agency web site has confirmed his role in the film.
And Wong has appeared in several films including “Moon,” “Sunshine” and “Dirty Pretty Things.” Wong will play Ravel.
On Wong’s Twitter feed on March 22, he wrote, “Prometheus…..boom!” Wong’s role has not been officially confirmed at this time.
In addition, the blog also reported some description about the alien costumes as spotted on the set at Pinewood Studios. Take this information as a rumor for now.
Here is what the blog wrote from their informant:
"Though security on the set is very tight with the good weather, dock doors have been open and cast and crew have been enjoying lunch outdoors. I can confirm seeing 3 aliens having lunch. Not the whole costume but blue-ish costumes and the unmistakable heads hanging around their shoulders.
"I managed to enter the bond stage one weekend when no filming was scheduled all I can say is there is a very very long tunnel that leads to an enormous structure at the back of the stage which is the same height as the stage and probably extends out another 200 ft. All of these sets are surrounded by wood foam and scaffold so I did not see inside, I think this is where the Space Jockey set is."

Is Guy Pearce In Prometheus?
29 April 2011
Anonymous tipper says he's on set
Ridley Scott's publicity machine remains as tight-lipped as Ryan Reynolds at the end of Wolverine, but those leaks and rumours are still flying. Making a change from the endless is-it-or-isn't-it-Alien speculation though, comes a report from CHUD that Guy Pearce has been spotted on the Prometheus set.
An anonymous email was sent under the pseudonym Brian Blessed (unless it really was from Brian Blessed, which would be awesome), and has since apparently been "corroborated" by, er, two more anonymous emails. It runs thusly (with some bleeping to protect the guilty): "My mate is working on Prometheus as **** and met Guy Pearce on set today. She's previously worked on ****, **** and **** and I've no reason to believe she's lying."
Hey, we really enjoyed ****!
Hardly rock-solid intel, but assuming good-faith on the part of the emailer, assuming Pearce didn't just wander along to say hello, and assuming Brian Blessed's "mate" didn't meet Michael Fassbender and get confused, this is the first anyone's heard of Pearce being involved. If it's true, it is, of course, excellent news. But given his screen-time in The Road and The Hurt Locker, there's no guarantee that he'll be on set for long.
Pearce notwithstanding, Prometheus definitely does number the aforementioned Mr Fassbender in its cast, along with Noomi Rapace, Idris Elba, Charlize Theron, and Rafe Spall. It's lined up for release next June, so we've more than a year of rumour-mongering ahead of us yet.

And here , we , GO.
Imagine that Alien still had to be made nowadays , If I'd be the casting director I would think Guy Pearce certainly fits the Nostromo crew.
Prove me wrong.
Let's hope this gossip is true because I'd love to see him in Prometheus.
Hopefully with some more screen-time indeed but it doesn't look that way unfortunately.
God I gotta stop reading news for this movie...

Quote: Just a few days back, word got out that actor, Guy Pearce had been spotted roaming around the set of Ridley Scott's 'Prometheus.' Nothing had been formally announced, so it was a bit strange to hear that he had already gotten down to business. Intrigued, the Playlist decided to make a few phone calls and have been able to confirm with Pearce's representatives that the actor has indeed joined the cast of the film. They weren't however, able to find out who Pearce's character will be.
It comes as no surprise that Pearce's character would be shrouded in mystery. Apart from a few names and vague descriptions, not much is known about 'Prometheus.'

http://www.latinoreview.com/news/potentially-leaked-plot-details-for-prometheus-13514
Quote: "I was speaking with a guy who is working on the set of prometheus and he showed me some pictures and told me a bout the storyline. The space jockey that you see in alien who has had his chest busted open is the guy who engineers the aliens. He sends the aliens to planet that he wants to take over. The aliens kill the locals and he flys in and pillages the land of its resources. It seems as though he is responsible for the aliens creation, i’m guessing that he is some kind of super scientist.
The engineer is played by some huge guy who is 8ft tall. He appears even bigger in the space jockey scene from Alien as he is wearing a space suit. He appears to have died in a seat that looks like it is some sort of weapon control, this is in fact the navigation system that the space ship uses to open worm holes and plot its course. Perhaps the aliens revolted and, knowing that he has been impregnated, he is desperately trying to return home to have the alien extricated?
He showed me some pictures from the set. There is a huge silver bust of the engineers head, it is approximately 15m high. It appears that the engineer is sort of leader of a civilisation and there is a cult around his personality and his alien creations, this is probably due to the fact that he has mastered the technology that continues to provide the resource requirements of his home world. I also saw a picture of the actor who plays the engineer in what appeared to be some sort of cryo-chamber."

Is he? New York Magazine just recently posted a picture of him in his "blonde android hairdo". But who knows? They could have been wrong...

‘Prometheus’ Bits: Neville Page Joins Design Team, Set Photo Leaked, Michael Fassbender Talks
2 June 2011
Details on Ridley Scott‘s Prometheus have remained shrouded in secrecy from the very beginning, and not much has changed now that shooting is actually underway. A couple of new tidbits today don’t reveal a whole lot more, but in the absence of any solid details about the film, seem worth noting nonetheless. After all, what kind of jerks would we be if we didn’t share what little information we had?
According to his resume, recently posted on the Worldwide Production Agency website, designer Neville Page is working on concept art and costumes for Prometheus. Page’s previous work includes creature designs for Avatar, Cloverfield, and Star Trek, as well as costume design on Tron: Legacy, Green Lantern, and the upcoming Spider-Man.
As other folks have pointed out, Page’s Cloverfield monster bears a resemblance to the Space Jockey from Alien, which an earlier rumor suggested would be appearing in Prometheus. What Page’s involvement actually means for Prometheus, I have no idea — but the fact that Page knows how to visualize Alien-esque creatures seems like a promising sign, at least.
Edit: We’ve been informed that Neville Page’s work was done in very early stages of the film only. What you’ll see in Prometheus was actually designed by Carlos Huante.
After the jump, Michael Fassbender speaks and we get an early glimpse at the set. Kind of.
In an interview with Metro New York, Michael Fassbender spoke briefly about working on Prometheus. As expected, the actor remained tight-lipped about any character or plot details. However, he did confirm that Prometheus is not a prequel to Alien:
"The thing is, it’s not a prequel. It definitely is separate. It is a separate story, but there are threads that connect the stories."
The actor then gave an intriguing answer when Metro asked what Prometheus was:
"Well Prometheus is basically a Greek god that stole fire from the gods so that he could give humans equal footing with them. And then he got sort of tied up to a tree or rock and then an eagle comes down and eats his liver each day and it regrows and he eats it, regrows so figure it out. How can you tie that into space?"
As previously reported, Fassbender will be playing an android in the movie.
A couple months back, Russ commented on the apparently airtight security on the film’s Pinewood Studios set — he noted that very few set photos had been leaked. Earlier this week, someone actually managed to sneak out a photo, and it reveals… that Russ was right about the intense obsession with secrecy. Check it out:
According to an unnamed source, the crates surrounding the green screen were purposely brought in in order to hide “a bunch of vehicles” from curious passersby. This is apparently unusual for Pinewood Studios, which generally doesn’t bother concealing its backlots from the public. Feel free to speculate on what’s lurking behind those crates in the comments. Actual aliens, maybe?

Quote: ladiator/Robin Hood star Russell Crowe has according to his Twitter feed just paid a visit to his good old pal Ridley Scott on the Prometheus set, and he seems very impressed to say the least:
"Just visited Ridley on the set of PROMETHEUS, holy s**t what a set, another incredible job by Arthur Max and his miracle workers"
Shortly after a fan asked if he had a chance to meet starring actress Noomi Rapace, to which he replies:
"She wasn't there unfortunately, Ridley full of praise for her. She is something special."
