NEOREV is Michael Matteo, an electronic music producer based in New York. He first appeared back in 2003 on the BK Music One compilation "Brainkiller Presents Music From The Jilted Generation Volume 1" with the song "Crank This Shit Up." Throughout the years following, he released various tracks across the internet. Many of these tracks would be gathered together and released unofficially as "Traveling At A High Velocity On A Downward Trajectory." This is a collection of early demos and unfinished tracks that were recorded between 2002 and 2006. It wasn't until the summer of 2009, when Neorev released his debut album "Lines & Shapes," an homage to the early 90's warehouse rave scene. Packed with big beats and breaks aimed at the dancefloor. Tracks like "Oh No!," "Disco Bustin'," and "Rock The Beat" were released as supporting EPs featuring additional tracks, alternate takes, and remixes from fellow producers all across the globe. At the end of 2011, the follow up album "Children Of The Bomb" was released and would show Neorev adopting a much darker sound that was a cross between industrial, dubstep, and experimental. This album would also have its share of supporting EPs packed to the brim with additional material, alternate versions, and remixes. "Brooklyn Stomp," "Let's Get Down," "Wildfire," and "No Control" would end up being the lead tracks for these releases. At the end of 2013, Neorev released two standalone EPs titled "Make Your Body Sway" and "So Twisted," which showcased him collaborating with various vocalists from different styles of music. Throughout the years, Neorev's music has been featured on various compilations, terrestrial radio in the UK and Italy, as well as musical scores for film. In 2015, he released "Disrupt The Scene" in digital stores and special limited edition CD.

"Across These Lands Unknown" is a special release that I have been working on for the last couple of years on the side. I consider this to be more of a concept album, a different mood and feel compared to the usual style aimed at dancefloors and subwoofers. You can say it's like a soundtrack. My own cinematic score to an imaginary movie inside my own head. It all began with the cover artwork, which I used as the main inspiration for its songs. I wanted to do something special for fans and start of the new year with something new and different.

"Long Island’s Neorev, aka Michael Matteo, embodies the epitome of what electronic dance music should be, i.e., music first and foremost, not just endless, insidious thumping. The fact is, the tracks on Lines & Shapes are actual songs with structure and changes, not just squibbles and squeaks over a 4/4 bass drum.

Lines & Shapes opens with “Oh No!”, an aggressive, almost industrial track recalling Lords of Acid or perhaps even My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult. Things change on “Force,” an Arabesque drum & bass trope. From here the tracks continue to demand attention while never stooping to the typical boring phrases and clichés expectant of electronic dance music. Several tracks, “The Stars Above Us,” “No Turning Back” and “Another Cloudy Day” even take on a particularly Krautrockian tone, eschewing the beat in favor of form and feeling, like Kluster or something.

In a style as bland as modern dance music, it’s quite refreshing to hear a collection of songs with some thought behind them. EDM doesn’t need to be boring, it just tends to be that way. We need more Neorevs to teach us otherwise."
