Deadline New York is reporting that Ford is not in talks, nor has he even been mentioned. Apparently they haven’t even gotten to the script stage yet and are still kicking around ideas for the film.

Andrew Kosove, who heads Alcon Entertainment had this to say:

“It is absolutely patently false that there has been any discussion about Harrison Ford being in Blade Runner. To be clear, what we are trying to do with Ridley now is go through the painstaking process of trying to break the back of the story, figure out the direction we’re going to take the movie and find a writer to work on it. The casting of the movie could not be further from our minds at this moment.”

“It’s like asking if we’re going to make the sky red or blue, there has been no discussion about it. What Ridley does in Prometheus is a good template for what we’re trying to do. He created something that has some association to the original Alien, but lives on its own as a standalone movie. In advance of knowing what we’re going to do, I supposed you could say yes [Ford could return]. But I think it is quite unlikely.”

Ridley Scott's New Blade Runner Film Will Be Sequel
18 May 2012

A month shy of Blade Runner’s 30th anniversary, word has come down that Ridley Scott will direct a sequel to the groundbreaking sci-fi film, with original screenwriter Hampton Fancher in talks to develop the screenplay.

News that Scott would helm a new Blade Runner movie came out a while back, but up until now it was unclear if the film would be a prequel, sequel or something else entirely. Beyond the clarity that the movie will indeed be a sequel, few details about its actual premise have been released.

“The filmmakers would reveal only that the new story will take place some years after the first film concluded,” production company Alcon Entertainment said in a statement announcing the sequel to the 1982 adaptation of Philip K. Dick’s novel Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep?.

However, as The Mary Sue points out, Scott noted recently that he’s looking to have a female lead in the film. Since Scott has already said Harrison Ford likely won’t be returning to reprise his role as “blade runner” Rick Deckard, having an amazing female lead holds the potential for true awesomeness.

“I started my first meetings on the Blade Runner sequel last week,” Scott told the Daily Beast in an interview posted Thursday. “We have a very good take on it. And we’ll definitely be featuring a female protagonist.”

The legendary director, whose highly anticipated Alien spinoff Prometheus opens next month, doesn’t elaborate on what kind of female protagonist his new Blade Runner film will feature — or whether she’ll be a replicant. But from Thelma & Louise to G.I. Jane, the director has earned a reputation for employing kick-ass female leads.

Sigourney Weaver’s Lt. Ripley from Alien is generally considered the action heroine by which all others are measured, and Prometheus boasts two female leads: Charlize Theron (who won an Oscar for Monster) and Noomi Rapace (the original Girl With the Dragon Tattoo).

“[I] was pretty taken with this little punk in the lead who seemed to own the street,” Scott told the Daily Beast of Rapace’s performance in the Girl With the Dragon Tattoo. “As a protagonist, she’s a very physical woman who’s almost as agile as an acrobat and keeps herself enormously fit. She’s also got a real brain in her head. No one’s going to be disappointed [by her performance in Prometheus]…. She sure does kick some ass in this movie — again and again.”

It’ll be a while before the new Blade Runner movie gets under way (Scott is currently in preproduction for his next film, The Counselor). But in the meantime, Rooney Mara — call your agent.

Or Kristen Stewart. 8-) The most intense and talented actress of all of them young starlets and the most drop dead gorgeous.

Are you joking? She's fucking pale and boring... just so lifeless. There's a reason why people ridicule her.

I wouldn't wanna see her or any of the other three actresses listed above. Just hot actresses... Blade Runner needs a proper cast with talented, great acting skills Wrong movie just cram them up with model/actresses.

Stewart is a seriously talented actress. Those who ridicule her, which I've never personally seen, probably have only seen her in the Twilight movies and not in the proper films she's done. There are "just hot actresses" and a lot of them out there but I wouldn't put any of the above mentioned actresses in that category. You're free to disagree of course.

To tell you the truth, she was ok in Panic Room (but still the least interesting of the two female roles) I thought she was a bit 'fake childish' in Into the Wild, in Speak I found her to be just remembering her lines, I thought she was no more than a filler actor in Jumper, in The Messengers she was playing too cliché and I found her to be FUCKING boring zombified fragile teen in Twilight to me (saw only one part, I cried - of laughing - and never looked back).

Kristen Stewart is mediocre at best. I don't know each movie she played in but all I can say is she looks like she's unintentionally type casted because she plays every role she gets so superficial and flat out bored (like she was spawned into the scene and still figuring out how the fuck she got there and what she's doing there. )

Sure, have your own opinion on this but there's way more interesting actors around to play in a new Blade Runner movie.

How dare you to disagree with me, twice? :P

I could be wrong but it sounds like you simply don't like her and thus you don't like her acting. There are some actors I can't stand no matter how good job they do on screen.

I think she was excellent in 'In to the Wild'. Excellent also in 'Adventureland' and 'The Cake Eaters' to name a few. 'Jumper' and 'The Messengers' were filler movies, like 'Twilights', so I wouldn't judge her performance based on those.

I could go on about something we disagree on. She's only done a few movies, most of them which are like b-movie, mediocre stuff where her input doesn't save the movies. How can she be excellent in a movie like Into the Wild where she has only a few minutes of screen time (and doesn't add much value to the overall story besides extra artificial sentiment). Haven't seen Adventureland and The Cake Eaters, will check 'm out. Maybe she (and you) can prove me wrong, and she IS able to play like she's someone else...

To me, Kristen Stewart doesn't really do what Sir Ian McKellen tells about acting in this little video. Like many other actors of Kristen's generation, she's not really someone else when she acts, but just type casted (they act lineair and predictable).

Anyway, what would be her place in Blade Runner? I believe that she would be totally out of place in a movie like that (even though it would be a challenge to do something out of the box, be a psycho bitch, some Replicant whore or a young femme fatale. I believe she couldn't manage such a role).

You sure are one persistent m.f., Sir Orange. :P Kristen hasn't done b-movies but she's been in a few mediocre ones just like any actor. That's because most of the films out there are just that. Oh, I forget to mention the excellent 'Welcome to the Rileys'. Check that out and you'll see that Kristen can play a whore. A troubled stripper/whore to be more precise.
