In addition to different box sets there's going to be the more basic 1, 2 or 4 -disc Theatrical Cut releases and The Director's Cut (Special Edition) releases which will be sold as separate releases in every region. That is why there's so many different cover designs.

Most of these deleted/expanded scenes are really good... for fucks sakes, Ridley. ..i enjoyed it but it could have been so much better....
the final fight with the engineer doesnt "diminish him" as Ridley said... dude takes a few axe hits to the leg, shakes them off as if they are nothing then kicks the shit out of Shaw. And this is preceded by a really tense sequence where Shaw has to hide from the engineer.... solid stuff... :/
Here's hoping for a director's cut.
Edit: How many director's cuts has Ridley put out already? Gladiator, Blade Runner, Legend, Kingdom of Heaven...

Well, it's a business decision, really.
Fox has the theatrical cut to sell on DVD..... A Director's cut will probably take a few years (a few months if one's being really optimistic) before it sees the light of day... and it'll be used to renew interest in the film... essentially used to get people to buy 2 versions of the same film.
In the meanwhile we'll probably get a fan cut of the film. Now that the film has been released on itunes.. it wont take too much time till we get one of those.

I'm sure we're going to see the Director's Cut as Ridley promised but Fox will undoubtedly double dip. They'll release the Theatrical Cut in it's various basic and special edition formats first and do the same with the Director's Cut sometime later. My guess would be that they'll release the Director's Cut a year from now to take advantage of the holiday season sales again.

I hope they will never do a director's cut. The movie is great as it is, and all deletets scenes are bullshit and not working. Better to focus on sequel.

You can have both with no extra work. But spitfire, ridley didn't promised a director's cut. he said he was pleased with the theatrical cut and that was the version he wanted to make. but there is enough material for a director's cut. from the audio commentary and the listed blu-ray extras is clear that he filmed the movie both for a pg13 short length and a r rated full length. Anyway Fox will decide if they will release a additional cut and that will probably happen either when the sequel comes out, or if they make a trilogy they will put it on that pack

Well, extended and unrated version will be good, like Aliens special edition. But not directors cut with new alternative scenes which are NOT canon story (like Alien 3 assembly cut with different ending and stupid ox idea and more... and alien DC with this stupid cocoon scene), i hate when they doing that.
(PM me this link please *PinHead*, thanx)
