I think this album is either you love it or you hate it stuff! Kinda like Justice last album!

My first impression is good, some weird tracks indeed, but they might grow on me after a few listens. Now I'm just waiting for FLACS or my vinyl to arrive so I can have proper listen through it :)

i love Justice's last album
call me nuts, even more than "Cross"
i felt "Audio Video Disco" was diverse, with peaks and troughs
a real journey kinda feel to it

i dunno, this just doesn't grip me
it never really peaks
as someone said, it's like elevator music
there's a couple of better tracks
but for the most part, they all kinda blend together to me
the vocals just kill it for me

i was really looking forward to see what they came up with, but left me sadly disappointed

maybe cuz i expected a couple of classic energetic Daft Punk tracks
it's a slow album

I agree Neorev. Production etc is spot on. There is just not really any song that makes you want to dance, none of it really innovates disco as a genre in any way either. Giorgio is okay, but still too slow and the guy trying to talk like terminator kills it for me.

I think it will separate a lot of Daft Punk Fans this new album. Personally, I get it. I didn't want old Daft Punk. This feels new and fresh. Also just feels like a jazz funk cover band doing Daft Punk. But I like it. This wont change the face of "Dance" music, its not the savior of dance music or EDM as the Americans like to call it. For me ... Musically its brilliant! production is amazing. Its just one of those albums I enjoyed from start to finish, and there's not a lot of albums these days (By Dance artists) that can do that.

Each to their own. but I suppose this kinda didn't live up to the hype building around it. Its very good. But not mind blowingly good. They're some top tracks on this album tho. Anybody else laugh, when Giorgio by Moroder dropped into the classic Moroder synth line. I'm loving that track by the way. This album needs to be listened to again, further down the road. A few months later etc etc to see if it has that instant, feel good feeling after not hearing it for a while. Oh ... Also loving the intro track. Just pure happy, good time feeling type of tune. with loads of FUNK! brilliant.

Production is ace...
I cannot knock the production.

It just doesn't spur any emotions from me or make me wanna move... it's too slow to make me move.
And I love the nu-disco type stuff or whatever ya wanna call it.

Maybe if I was at a party and this was on in the background, it wouldn't bother me... as background music.

But when you are listening, the music is upfront and present, it's just not enveloping enough.

This reminds me of the disappointment that I had with Virtual Boy's first album...

Their initial three EPs were amazing and filled with innovation and had an emotional and powerful energy, then they finally come out with an album that was completely downtempo that just never peaked and reeeeeally overused the vocoder voice (more so than Daft Punk did here)... like every single track had this vocoder voice over it (even more monotone than Daft Punk's) when their previous efforts had none of that.

Is this Daft Punk album a horrible album? I wouldn't say that.
Just not engaging enough with replay value.

Some people may love it, but it just didn't hold my interest.
My girl Erin loves Daft Punk and found the new album lackluster as well... and she loves the modern disco stuff.

She also loves Justice's "Audio, Video, Disco" and the way they progressed. That's why she's my girl :)

Yeah, I know what your saying Neorev. It all comes down to personal taste n all that. Like I say... kinda feels like a Jazz funk fusion band covering Daft Punk if I'm honest. Production spot on. yeah. I tend to like most things with funk anyway. And its all over this album. Take away Niles Rodgers... and it prob wouldn't be anything!? he makes some of these tracks work for me. The funk is the core of the tracks, I'm just loving the funkiness to it.

Yeah not all the tracks make me wanna move, only about two or three for me that would if I heard it in a club or what ever.

I also think it sounds like its a compilation of all the influences of Daft Punk thrown into this. An Experimental album in a way, produced and made by them for the love of the music and original methods used back in the day. I read somewhere they hinted at them doing remix versions of some tracks themselves. This could be interesting. Could be remixed by them into the classic old style Daft Punk which some people are missing from this album. Could be more electronic style remixes. bring it on. :D

Interview with Zane yesterday.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VTfdLxYnJ3U

altough many tracks sounds like to belong to dance floor, they insist this record is ment to be something you listen at home. they say, nowadays electronic music aims to be played on stage. RAM is something you enjoy home, with your Hi-Fi system. and i agree. it's something you enjoy with really concentrating on it. with a smile on your face.

went at least 5 circles today, and it got clearer every time. love it.

"DJs here will find disdain cause they need instant 122-130 bpm bangers that makes their lives easier" - Questlove from the Roots

It's not an album meant to have tons of singles... and it definitely aint a dancefloor ready album. Actually.. is there a single programed 4/4 highly compressed kick in it? Wasnt expecting THIS MUCH live instruments in it.

Daft Punk just threw us a curveball

And it's growing on me...

But even those arent incredibly compressed nor is there sidechaining at all on the album :P Wich used to be a big part of their "sound" and style :P

the first couple of tunes do nothing for me... still. :P But there's some really good stuff here,. :P

Same direction as what Justice did, sounding like 'an actual live/studio/partly organic/experimental 'album' listen-at-home type of vocal-filled electro soul funk dancy band.... thing'.
