Recording albums was profitable to about 2000 year. Then started era of free music in Napster, Kazaa. Now we've got torrents. Why Liam have to work hard if his tracks will be stolen ? So Prodigy focus on live gigs where they have full profit. We have still the same playlist on gigs i know but this is their job. In your job you try to be tired ?

A lot of artists stream their new albums for free now as they're aware they'll become available online anyway. Knowing their fans will buy the albums through digital or limited edition LP's. Meaning they make the bulk of their cash from live gigs like you say.
But to suggest that as a reason not to make any new music is stupid. You can take advantage of online avenues to create ridiculous amounts. Look how much interest Daft Punk managed to get through a few teasers and an online stream. Likewise right now with Boards of Canada, they're all over the internet.
The prodigy could totally fit into that niece with a new record, have us all slavering at the chops.
Then play all of it live.

I think an album is profitable. Warriors Dance Milton Keynes wouldn't have happened without the IMD album, because I don't think they'd have got the crowd numbers without it, let alone a fresh set list, and that's just one of many...
Then there's the other stuff, like those £100 IMD limited edition books, that lot would have generated a bit of revenue off the back of the album. T-shirts and other merch using the new album graphics etc...
One other thing though, what about pride? Adding to your legacy? I draw and have pride in my art and I do it for that rather than money. If I was a musician a large part of me would be making an album for the pride, self satisfaction and adding to my legacy. For artists, no matter the field, that should be of core importance...
Yes it's good that Liam would rather take his time to get it right than sell out, but with such large gaps and so much decent material thrown away you can't help wondering and consequently writing shit like this on internet forums...

But, there isnt as much of a demand for a new prodigy record as a daft record, too many people have forgotten about them since 97, daft punk have a gimmick, the prodigy dont.. keiths not even allowed to be 'mr 'firestarter' shouty crazy hair man' any more, they held the nostalgia card in 2009 by pure luck, but they dont have it now..
the swell was there with AONO but then they didnt deliver FOTL2, that rubbed a lot of people the wrong way, some completely writing them off, and then they had another chance with IMD, because people thought maybe this time around we would get that old skool vibe we missed, metallica did it successfully the year before so why not?
the problem is in this current day.. theres no demand at all for it, the prodigy-sphere has dissipated, anything they drop now its gonna be on its own, nobody is crying out for a record from them, theres too much great music out there people are getting into instead, so expecting this album is just gonna be BIG because its 'the prodigy' is naive IMO
people say, oh well its not about charting, well it kinda is when others livelihoods depend on it, let alone getting people to invest in them..
so they either wait around for the perfect time/opportunity with the right sound, or just drop whatever the fuck they have right now and be done with it, go on tour again, and slug away till they can no longer stand upright
chances are they will wait until they have something that will do 'well', something thats gonna set them up financially, cos in back of their minds they must know they arent getting any younger and that window is closing..

Completely agree.
Something happened after '98 or '99.
I can't stop suspecting he just partied a little too hard post FOTL, bringing all the fuzz, gigs, fame, free girls, drugs and general mayhem. I'm not joking when I say I guess he lost a little brain power along the way. Just compare interviews from like '95 or so to the ones these days or even 2004 or something. He once had something to say, some really clever bits about music, about other acts, about Keith, about the differences in the countries he's seen, about his vision. Now he's just kind of an empty shell and he really looks bad since a while.
I know I'll sound just like the next retro buff, but I love watching their old shows, where Liam is switching disks on the W-30, jumping around and the whole thing feels fresh and so energetic. It just looks like hard work and endless fun. I read the book from Martin Roach a couple of years ago and I loved every bit Liam had to say in there. It covers their time up until '95 or '96 or so and Liam tells a lot about how he perceives music, where he gets his samples from, how he's writing differently every time he starts songs, how he and Neill met and started doing music together, how he saw and felt the band at that time and what his next ideas for them to morph into something new yet again - it's really deep and helps to dive into this inspiring and astounding mind of Liam.
All this evaporated somehwere between '98 and '2002 or so. I consider the Dirtchamber his last true great move. I think he was still in the zone at that time, cos that thing is a creative blast and like all the other Prodge stuff back then it's one of a kind and so unique, it hasn't been paralleled before or after.
Well, time to close my little retro thing here. I'm just glad "I was there" and consider myself lucky. But at the same time it's sad to see how something wonderful can stop working and fall to mediocracy.

thats completely objective ofcourse, but you actually crunch the numbers, people arent out there saying 'oh music has gone to hell these days' like they did in the early 2000s before the rise of social media/easy access to a plethora of new music, everyone has the chance to be heard nowadays without being filtered/neutered through record labels
