You come across very bitter there. Neko went to just about every live gig no matter which country they played in. She set up a fan site which became very popular. The band used to see her at every gig. Right place, right time, a lot of effort, a lot of travel and expense, a love of the live shows and the right attitude is why Neko is known by The Prodigy.

Back in the days when Nekosite was at it's most popular The Prodigy rarely announced their own news. Nekosite was the place for Prodigy news. For the last few years The Prodigy tend to announce all their own news (which is a good thing in my book) via their own website.

as i said she would run herself into the floor to see them and that gets respect from me for sure. and yes, if it wasnt for the site, things would be different absolutely. however i still stand by what i say in regards to how she acted after getting to know the band. not bitter no, i guess just a bit disappointed.

Neko ran sites for other bands as well, she went to many other concerts and met many other band members too. Prodigy wasn't the only band she adored, but she was a huge Prodigy fan nonetheless.

Aside from Neko being a huge music fan, she's also an extremely hard worker, and a very intelligent person. To be extremely honest, it was an inspiration seeing how much she was able to achieve in her personal life, and still be that Prodigy loving, punk rock adoring chick we all knew her as, the whole time being DOWN TO EARTH about it all. I was really lucky to meet someone like her. I do miss her site, but I can imagine she's moved on to bigger things in life.

To summarize, I can see why you think it seems that her web presence dwindled down after what seemed like the band using her site as a "web presence" but really it was the perfect storm of the internet becoming a social hub, dozens of websites/forums coming up and her being dedicated to other things in her life, probably life in general.

i totally agree mate, she was super dedicated. it was very inspiring to see, and i think it rubbed off on everyone who read her reviews and her posts back in the early days.

perhaps it was a case of bad timing in the sense that as you say changing internet etc... but from my perspective, this is how its always looked. granted i was not in her circle of friends at all, i met her once and quite honestly didnt get chance to make an opinion based on her personality as it was a brief hello at a gig. but i do think its just a shame that nekozine went from being a buzzing hub of discussion and news to just a dormant space. whether or not the lack of neko posts had a knock on effect i dont know. it depends on your perspective, and this is mine. and i know personal life always will get in the way of sideprojects etc... but it always seemed like the lack of posts and such seemed to coincide with the growing friendship if you will, with liam.

Your post make it seem like you do know her privately. How could you otherwise talk about how she acted since she became friends with Liam?

Nekosite was the go to place for people to post Prodigy news they'd found out about. One of the reasons Nekosite 'died' was because The Prodigy started to put their own news out. Like I said before, I think it's good that they put their own news out now. Nekosite filled the gap in the days where the official website was usually the last website to confirm news. The Nekosite forum was very active but the gap between releases grew and grew. The time between TFOTL and AONO was huge. There wasn't much to discuss so more and more people visited less and less. Another reason is that a lot of the Nekosite regulars were fans from the early days of The Prodigy. That means we are all now in our mid-30s to early 40s. People have more spare time when they are younger when they don't have kids, careers, etc.

however it just seemed like the change in her frequency on the boards and such coincided with the increasing number of exclusive interviews she was getting and time she was spending either with or talking to the band.

ive always thought and maintained that nekozine played a large part in liam getting his act together in 2003 and him knowing that the fanbase was still there and still hungry, it urged him on. it was a very knowledgeable, friendly and honest place but mostly full of diehard fans. so for that, she certainly deserves and gets my respect, and the hell she put herself through for the gigs again gets my respect. its just the way things changed thats all.

i think this is probably coming across as sour grapes, and thats not how its intended. just my observations. which of course are as blunt now as theyve always been. and thats even if my observations, or presumptions are correct or incorrect. i will openly admit that!!

I didnt know about neko before year 2000 or so i guess...

i lurked long time on theprodigy.nl before i stumbled on neko.

it was great place, she did best interviews. band took her questions seriously, that was the main thing. that site dying is sad, such history.

tho i don't think that it died because band started to announce news itself...

i guess one reason was that many of it's members where oldscool sharks and had better to do then check board every now and then. and it was too long wait after AONO again.. and somehow it didnt receive new members after IMD came out.

I think this forum would not be alive, if there would not be enough fresh blood after IMD and some real great dedicated members who often hunt new bits and pieces.

I loved Neko's site, used to be the go-to place. Believe I met her once at Reading Festival 1998. I agree about that generation of fans growing up and not being able to live on the Internet like we used to - I'm one of those. Barely ever post now. I remember the days of the message board on the first official website. Pete Thomas. The news groups. The interweb was really exciting back then.

Oh dear god, this video is quite pitiful and is some seriously cringeworthy shit.

This brings back memories of Maxim's Hell's Kitchen & Flightcrank. My opinions of everything Prodigy related from this era has drastically changed, I now think it is all complete rubbish!
