Somebody should do a PhD on "Anticipation" and include Prodigy as the main subject of research. Come to think of it, Anticipation should be the name of the album, it certainly justifies 86 fucking pages of banter, and that's only the second part.

i like to pretend the abomination known as "Shoot Down" does not exist and we are still waiting for the superior "Trigger" to arrive.

"Shoot Down" is just one of those "Liam's re-written a song into an inferior version and thinks it's better" moments
any one remember the commotion with his re-writing, or shall we say chopping up, the chorus in "World's On Fire" caused?

I don't think this compares with the anticipation for TFOTL though - that was mainstream, widespread feverish hunger, at least here in the UK. Record shops like HMV were putting signs up just to say "no, we don't know anything about the new prodigy album yet" and when it finally dropped they opened at midnight on release date. My local was busy that night / morning. That was a great time to be a Prodigy fan. It wasn't just a handful of the hardcore faithful on a niche message board, it was everyone.

i remember that in Rotterdam the first retail shop of Virgin was opened and that FOTL was being promoted massivly. first a sneak peak where you could listen to it before release, and with the release you could grab the cd with a free poster. posters everywhere.

I skipped school for that day and waited for the shop to open. When I grabbed my copy (from a big table, solely prepared for and stacked with Prodge related stuff and tons of FOTL's on it) a guy next to me said "It's finally here! And check out the price tag!" and he was sounding really excited. He was about 40 or so, back then, and I though 'wow, that old geezer still loves this music. I'll be fine in 25 years!' If the material was still as groundbreaking and exciting as the sound back then, I'd be totally fine. I'm still glad they do what they do, but yeah, they've lost what made them special. Still, that fucking CD was about 10.50€ back than, on release day. Way to go.

The state of things today is not just a reflection on the Prodigy, I think it's the whole music industry and the way people are consuming music these days. I can't imagine any artist today generating that kind of a buzz. Maybe if Michael Jackson, Elvis, Freddie Mercury, John Lennon and Kurt Cobain rose from the dead and formed a supergroup, but other than that...
