TFOTL - no hype for me - super album

huh? The Fat Of The Land had a lot of hype...
it's actually the most hyped album out of all of their releases and it was a super album. Even here in the States the hype was huge for months ahead of its release.

Yes... I wrote "no hype for me" ... I know there was big hype but not for me because I listen to different music and that time I didn't listen to Prodigy. I'm not listening electronic music except The Prodigy and very few things from other bands.

He co-wrote IMD(the song). Maybe he co-wrote other tracks on the new one. Time is running out on a February release date, the more the announcement gets delayed, the more the album gets pushed back.

They did say the 1st quarter of 2015, so that's around 12 weeks away. Not a huge amount of time to wait in the grand scheme of things. I would imagine they've been tweaking in the mastering stage and then they've all buggered off on holiday after caning it getting the album finished before SARM closed. I think things will ramp up again early January, I am hoping we get a title before the end of the year though...

It seems likely that they're prepping up for some kind of marketing plan. But isn't it a bit weird to be so secretive, even when it comes to the album name?
It's almost 2015, it's not like 20 years ago when people had to rely on magazines, radio and MTV for info to create a build-up.

They could release the album digitally in the next hour if they wanted, it's not such a technical feat anymore.

So why no info at all except for social media snippets...? I'm no marketing strategist, but I don't understand this at all.

I guess they're being old school in every sense.

Would it really hurt sales to just release just like that? Are they afraid that releasing just before christmas might be a problem sales wise...?

Just put Flint with a Christmas hat on the cover and release the damn thing already!

Well everything is still "in schedule", as they did promise to reveal the title before Christmas at the start of October, and that included releasing it in February.

I would imagine that instead of revealing bits of info throughout a month like they did with IMD, they are opting for a full reveal with the cover, title and tracklisting in one go. Would make a nice Xmas-present, especially if they throw in a free download of a track as well.

In order to properly promote the album they HAVE to give exclusives to different media. The promise of exclusives help bring more listeners or readers in, of course.

Say... bbc radio 1 gets to announce the album name and release date.. then another radio station gets to play the first single..
A magazine will get a good long interview and the album tracklist, etc.

This is why they are holding onto a lot of the info. It's all part of the long promotion game to ensure maximum exposure and $$$.

Ok, I suppose that makes sense, except that I would have thought that it would have been through web sites now. Do so many people still listen to the radio these days...? I feel like I haven't listened to the radio to discover new things in ages. Same thing with magazines.

Ugh... and I though that I was getting old. :-D

A single for Christmas would be the best Christmas present I can think of, but I won't hold my breath for a free download.

I think they've learned from the mistakes made last time. I'm glad it's gone old school again in that we have to wait for Radio stations to play the new shit. No leaks, no internet, not even many live airings of new tracks and thus no moaning or whinging!

Was it really such a mistake? I mean... apart from the hard-core fans who are on the lookout for any small detail like hungry sharks, what difference does it make? Hundreds of thousands of "normal" people probably hadn't heard anything.

Not a major mistake, but you can guarantee that some people got it free early and didn't bother paying for a proper copy when it was out. Plus by the time IMD was released we'd heard the majority of the tracks live (IMD, WD, WOF, RWTW, TMTTH and Omen) so it wasn't really anything of a surprise.

I still think doing it this way, the old school way, is refreshing and for me there's more excitement about this new record than there was with IMD.

Only thing that worries me is that the live stuff I have heard (that isn't on the album) has felt like that whole Nuclear era stuff. So i'm glad that they aren't on the album.

Agreed. Hey, Bo Bandy, I appreciate the TPB reference--I love that show!
