But what the hell does sony helping blu-ray overcome HD-DVD have to do with videogames? It's Sony propaganda. You have all been infected :(

PS3 can play Blu-ray movie disc (Sony development&others), like the PS2 a DVD movie. That's why is expected more sales of Blu-ray movie discs

Look... after all... it's just a product.

And company's want to make their product the best selling.

The whole Blu-Ray thing is a good marketing step IMO.

Not only gamers... but also technology freaks will buy the PS3.

agreed :)

Baa I'm not goning to be winning any arguements here. All I'm saying is this thread was no way orientated towards videogames. It was merley created to show boat Sony's PS3.

Does anyone really care if Blu-Ray are outselling HD-DVD? What does it mean for the games industrey? Only that the future of our videogames will use that format. Both have stregths and weaknesses but overall achieve pretty similar things. You would accept either of these formats as a base for your videogaming pleasure? Who cares who wins? Sony fanboys care who wins ;)

for Toshiba from this point of view this really, really care, trust me. imagine that there are people who have PS2 and play DVD Movie-no need to buy a DVD Player. they have two pieces in one - the same with PS3. and by the way, i'm not a Sony fan, more a "MOVIE QUALITY DISC". i don't think that i will buy a PS3 or 360, maybe when will be 100$. for shure will pay 300$ for a DVD player who will have also Blu-Ray&HD-DVD, but for the moment i stay with DVD's :)

It's a PS3 discussion so naturally it's not just about the videogames. It's not the 80s anymore mate. You know what I mean?

I don't own the PS3 yet but isn't the blu-ray tied to the games as well? Some of these games coming out have hd output on them, sony's mark for hd is blu-ray. either way, it's relevent.. it's about the video gaming console and it's future as sales for not just dvds but the format games are made on. it could have just as well been 360 or wii using this and i'd say it's still relevent to gaming sections

Blu-ray burning its high-def DVD rival
By Thomas K. Arnold

LOS ANGELES (Hollywood Reporter) - Of the high-definition discs bought by consumers in the first quarter, 70% were in the Blu-ray Disc format and 30% were HD DVD, according to sales figures provided by trade publication Home Media Magazine.

Blu-ray took the lead in February, and its percentage of total sales accelerated to the point where it accounted for nearly three out of every four high-definition discs sold in March.

What's more, when given the choice, consumers are going with Blu-ray. Warner Home Video released "The Departed" the same day, February 13, in both formats. Between then and March 31, consumers bought 53,640 copies of the film on Blu-ray Disc and 31,590 on HD DVD, according to Home Media's market research, based on studio estimates and Nielsen VideoScan point-of-sale data.

Research also shows that eight of the 10 top-selling high-definition titles in the first quarter were on Blu-ray Disc. At the top of the list was "Casino Royale," which sold through to consumers an estimated 59,680 units in the period. The Blu-ray Disc edition of "Departed" finished second, while the HD DVD version of that Oscar-winning film placed third.

From January 1-March 31, consumers bought almost 1.2 million high-definition discs -- 832,530 Blu-ray units and 359,300 HD DVDs -- according to Home Media Magazine. In March, consumers bought 335,980 Blu-ray Discs and 119,570 HD DVDs.

Since the high-def format's inception -- HD DVD launched in April 2006, while Blu-ray got rolling two months later -- more than 2.14 million discs have been purchased by consumers: 1.2 million Blu-ray Discs and about 937,500 HD DVDs.

Observers aren't surprised by the disparity, noting that Blu-ray Disc enjoys the support of five of the six major studios, while HD DVD is supported by three of them. Three studios -- Sony, Disney and Fox -- are exclusively in the Blu-ray camp, as is mini-major Lionsgate. Paramount and Warner support both formats. Universal is the only major studio to release titles only in the HD DVD format, which backers claim is easier and cheaper to produce.

Walmart just struck a massive blow to BluRay. Regardless of how well it's doing now it will have major issues in the States because of this. Walmart is pretty much the biggest chain of stores in the US and this will be catastrophic for BluRay sales.

Apparently Sony isn't allowing the Porn industry to release their 'products' on Blu-Ray DVD. VHS beat the superior Betamax because VHS was the tape of choice for the Porn industry.

Dangerous move by Sony considering the Porn industry is apparently America's third biggest industry (behind Arms and Hollywood).

Evans- Lol, yes I briefly posted on NeoGaf and got banned. It was over a Fight Night 3 thread where the 360 and PS3 versions were being compared. I brought up the obvious fact that the PS3 version had an extra year of development and someone called me out saying that the developers said it was only because of the PS3 hardware. I refuted by saying something along the lines of money makes people say a lot of things. It's no secret that developers can't talk bad about systems they are developing on (though the few really powerful names in the industry pull it off).

I was then banned and the mod actually mocked me in a private message telling me I'm a flaming fanboy and to enjoy the launch of the PS3(which I did. I spent three days in line for one which I made $300 off of, lol). I have a friend that actually is one of the staff at NeoGaf that I personally work with (sitting four cubicles away from me right now). He told me that mod is the worst mod there and is extremely biased towards Sony. I'm now unbanned but have no interest in going back. If I'm going to get banned without warning for making a factual statement I have no reason to be there.

I mainly stick with the Kikizo.com forums (which I haven't been on much lately either) and the Xbox Live clan forum I'm a part of.

James- Sony is not banning porn though that was news for a while. Since that happened Sony has come out and said they aren't really banning it, they just aren't pushing it. They'd rather not have it on their format.

You are very correct about that being dangerous. Supposedly porn makes up over half of DVDs sold so Sony not backing it would ruin them.
